Some street lights on the neighboring hill got changed to the low polluting ones. I happen to live just at such a height that i can see them perpendicularly.
The difference is enormous. I'd say they emit three times less stray light than regular street lights. They don't have such a wide light angle like the normal ones but for lighting the road and sidewalk they are more than enough, sadly they don't light up the hot chick walking the dog 200 meters away. But then again the regular lights just barely light them up so you can't really tell if shes hot or if the shadows are just ****ing with you.

Sometimes i wonder why the **** did people make ordinary street lights because the focused ones are not high tech. Maybe people back then just wanted to show nature how big is their cock.

I live about a kilometer away from an area filled with greenhouses which light up the night sky like it was day, so these things wouldn't make a goddamn difference I'm afraid :p

The ultimate green technology...outdoor gas heaters (ok these are electric)

Now the woman walking her dog won't be able to adequately see the strange man following her.

I'm not sure I understand this topic. You're complaining that regular street lights make too much light, or that they use too much electricity?

Actually the first, but don't they like go hand in hand

We got streetlights here that only come on when you get within a certain distance of them, and they are white light not the orange barf glow of regular street lights.

These wouldn't work in the city, as they'd always be going on and off at night.. But in the country they are cool.

I abhor white lights.

Light with the tint the sun provides feels more natural.

I don't mind orange or yellow lights, but they never get a cool shade of those colours, it always looks like puke, ESPECIALLY street lights...

I wonder why street lights aren't green. It makes sense really.

The colored street lights are nowhere near the color temperature of sunlight. They are shit, i much prefer white lights.

W..why? You're afraid you won't be able to go to sleep at night because the streetlights outside are too bright or what? :|

Well for one thing, watching start is really enjoyable for me...i'm not sure you'd understand that. Any actually yes... i have to shade my window every night in order to block out street lights.

And if you'd see the direct difference in aesthetics of shaded light compared to omnidirectional you'd see how cool it looks.

I understand what you mean, jvern. It's really hard to stargaze with all of the street lights around. Took a drive out to the country a couple of months back, no street lights for miles. It was awesome.

No, he's afraid he won't be able to go to sleep at night because the hot chick walking her dog outside is visible.

I agree. Back when I lived in a very small town *of about 150 - 200 people*, you could easily see every star in the sky. Now in the city, I have to go out of town to see them. Bleh.
