These guys need to be lynched.

more like reset passwords and hit...these guys are a pest.

Probably doing it to scare people.

EDIT: If they do something, they will probably get into deep shit.

Let them try. I will return more powerful than you can ever imagine.

Me and Taviow were talking about this the other day. Its only natural to think of Steam as a target since its so huge, but honestly I'm not terribly worried about it. For one, even if it does get hacked, I think Valve will handle it well, unlike Sony. In addition, Gabe has said that since the PSN attacks, Valve has been going over their own security measures again, and I'm sure they've been doing a lot of work on it since Lulzsec has been in the news so much recently. Also, Steam Guard makes it pretty damn secure anyways, assuming people aren't dumb enough to use the same password for their email address as they do with Steam (or any other account at all, for that matter). The worst they could do is get your credit card number, which yeah, would suck.

But frankly, people just need to stop talking about them. They're just attention seekers, and we're giving them what they want. If they do anything, just let the companies deal with it appropriately, and don't make a fuss about it. This thread is exactly the type of thing they want to see. They're not doing anything special that others can't do, so stop making them feel like they're special. I avoided the whole other thread because of this, but I feel like I should say something now that we've got two threads about them. Just let them fade back into obscurity where they belong.

So how do these guys have a twitter account...? Is twitter okay with them threatening the public like that?

I've checked their twitter account, and this tweet is nowhere to be found in there. No mention of this in the Steam forums either, and you'd think somebody would have thought of posting that in the Steam forums before HL2.net got it. It's not on reddit either. In fact it's not posted anywhere that I know of, except for this place. I mean, maybe I simply did an absolutely terrible search somehow, but I just don't think this is real.

So we can't discuss a potential attack on one of the most popular online stores that almost everyone on this forum uses? In fact, this is one of the first times I've ever heard of Steam being threatened by hackers. I think this does deserve some attention, whether it's real or just a hoax intended to incite fear and panic.

And if what Taviow says is true, then my post, along with this entire thread, was all for nothing.

I checked the guy Fungos' account, and yeah, he never retweeted anything of the sort. His last retweeted from lulzsec are(sans the most recent from 50 minutes ago)

Our Brazilian unit is making progress. Well done @LulzSecBrazil, brothers!

So they're not threatening Steam, just Brazil. So no problems.

What I was thinking but then if Twitter's anything like Facebook you can only report things for racism, hate speech and spam. Even then they don't care unless a lot of people bulk report at the same time.

Of course you can. I'm just saying you're giving them what they want.

Who cares. You guys really think Valve is going to get hacked again? After the source code leak I'm sure that network security has been a very serious and well-considered priority for them that has only become MORE important in recent years as Steam has grown and prospered. I would be surprised if Lulzsec could actually find a chink in their armor besides just stealing a bunch of morons' accounts.

The filename of the image suggests that it came from 4chan.

There are chans out there?

We're doomed.

God it's one thing to piss off the millions of casuals playing LoL or the much smaller number of hardcore Eve people, but you go after Steam that's like a Pearl Harbor scenario. That's basically every decent PC gamer out there and a ton of invested money. They would have no allies.

They would have no allies.

Aren't they supposed to "Hate everyone equally" or something?

I dunno. They probably just wish they mattered as individuals in society.

These dudes bored me by the middle of last week. They pretty much signed their futures away when they hacked those government websites.

Some people will do anything to be relevant even for a moment. In hopes someone will put their worthless names in a book somewhere of "people who annoyed the shit out of everyone."

It reminds me of all those random griefing pricks who go out of their way to ruin the joy of others... you know not just people who will play games and be pricks within standard boundaries, but the ones that go beyond standard means to do so. Like the guy that gets a game hack just to ruin the game. Or the guy that gets on your Vent password and comes on playing loud annoying music. And then the guys like this who are aware that what they're doing is wrong, so they try to disguise it as "oh we're just showing you the holes." It's like shooting a cop in the arm and saying "oh we're just showing you where he doesn't have a bulletproof vest."

Yup, these people are just attention whores who eat stuff like this.

They don't have anything on steam, if they did they wouldn't be announcing it on twitter.

Everyone just remember to have Steam Guard installed and don't get both your Steam password and email password stolen at once and you'll be fine. Even if it is a fake image it's a reminder that nothing is 100% secure and always be wary and don't use the same password for everything (too many people do this).

I can just see it now, Gabe and Doug are writing down everybodies account on paper as backup :upstare:

Damn, I knew I shouldn't of had the same code as I have on my luggage

Also, in the spirit of keeping your internet presence secure, gmail has a similar thing to Steam Guard that you can use to keep your email account secure. Where steam sends you an email to verify your identity, Gmail uses your phone. You can have it so that when you log in on a new computer, it will send a text to your phone with a code that you enter when you log on to your gmail account. This way, for someone to have access to your email, or change your email's password, they also need to have your phone. I've been using it for awhile and its a simple and unobtrusive layer of additional security.

That picture would have been better with the Heavy's minigun.

I realized today that most of the idiots that pariticipate in this little organization are probably far too young and blind to understand the effects of what they do. This will be one of those things where in like 10 years you'll see a dateline special about how they regret everything and sought to change the world with terrible tactics.

May be true, but even if everybody in the world today tried to convince them what they were doing was wrong, they would deny it and just think "LOL WE'RE TROLLING SO HARD XD EPIC LULZ" because they're in a constant self-supporting circlejerk with the whole idea of "If somebody doesn't like what you're doing for [insert reason here], LOL YOU'RE TROLLING THEM SO HARD"

There are no mature people on the internet. Just like there are no women.

Lulzsec hacked by rival hacker

Normal Link

If that link doesn't work/times out, use this:
Google Cache Page of Normal Link

It's about time. But I imagine LulzSec will just say "He was so mad he hacked us, LOL!"

The hacker's message:
No matter how many bots you gather, no matter how much people you lie to, no matter how much pre-made tools you use, you will NEVER represent the real hacking scene, we warned you, we told you we do not make empty threats, we gave u 48hrs to secure your ircs yet u failed to do so, instead u posted hashes from public forums and then claimed you doxed us and laughed at the fact that i was 17years old. stop telling yourself that u are hackers, putting a ip into a irc is NOT hacking nor is using pre-made tools and scripts to grab databases… you do not represent the anti-sec movement, u are not allowed to greet underground groups like zf0, ab, h0n0, el8 like your member “AnonSabu” was doing, you will never be apart of the underground scene, if anyone thinks you are underground and can actually hack they have no idea about what happens in the underground scene. oh and TeaMp0isoN Issue 2 is coming out VERY soon exposing lulzsec members (pictures, addresses, passwords, ips, phone numbers etc). . . . not so anonymous anymore are you? lets hope that you can swim because the lulzboat just got titanic’d.

Edit: Turns out this counter-hacker didn't even hack a lulzsec member's webpage, all he did was replace index.php on some webpage that he thought was a lulzsec member's, and the counter-hacker has none of this information about their addresses, ips, etc. Welp.
