BayStar Capital, which invested $50 million in The SCO Group last October, on Thursday confirmed that Microsoft introduced it to the small software company that has mounted a court challenge to Linux, the open-source operating system that has become a strong rival to Windows.

sounds suspicious...

Speculation that Microsoft was bankrolling SCO surfaced last week when Eric Raymond, president of the Open Source Initiative, published a leaked internal e-mail thread between Chris Sontag, a senior vice president and general manager of SCO's licensing division, and Mike Anderer, chief executive of Salt Lake City-based strategic consulting firm S2.

In the exchange, which occurred just days before the BayStar investment, Anderer offhandedly claimed that Microsoft had given SCO more than $82 million through various investment vehicles and was willing to put up more. SCO denied the claims, saying Anderer was misinformed. SCO and Microsoft have denied having any investment relationship.

The fact that M$ has anything to do with SCO (the anti open source people) is enough to make me angry but the fact it might be them funding SCO's anti Linux law suites is even worse. SCO at one point were trying to get a law passed that would make Open source software almost impossible to maintain legally, they have been accuseing IBM of steeling there code and putting it in Linux and are now trying to get Linux customers to pay SCO for a product they have nothing to do with.

Basically whats going on here is M$ are funding another company to try and take down Linux because they can't do it themselves. M$ have gone too far this time, I'm not paying for another M$ product untill they clean up there act.

Ya this is just another reason for me to hate Microsoft. I can't wait for more info to be leaked about what Microsoft has been doing.

/me touches his fingertips together
Excellent.

as soon as Halo 2 is released... we shall burn teh micro$oft building and steal gatez teh cash!

I just want someone to pie gates again, not that this latest episode is his fault but rather one of his filthy executives. I'm not sure he even has proper control of the company anymore.

So far its only speculation, so I'm a little hesitant to blame MS yet, as I've seen some people try to pin some absolutely ridiculous things on them.
And can we stop it with the dang "M$" stuff? Not only is it annoying to read, it doesn't make your point any better.
