uhh i don't think that you can compair the two engines. cause the source is primitive compaired to the Unreal 3 mainly because the Unreal engine uses next gen coding and source is still trying to make a debut...

Well that'd be because it is... Bear in mind Unreal 3 and games based on its technology won't be out for a fair while, so Source has life in its old dog. Or something.

Haha, i guess some people can't get over the idea that there will be more FPShooters after HL2 and D3 :rolling: Who cares what their opinions are, they are only that opinions. Don't let it get to you, just enjoy games as they come. I think gabe said it himself that him and Mr Carmack are good friends, although they are compeating with each other, I'm sure Carmack knows HL2 has the upper hand but that doesn't depress Carmack does it? Someone asked Gabe if he was threatenned by newer engines like F.E.A.R and stalker and his response was "bring it on" or something like that. All good things eventually die, its a fact, get over it. Just think 10 years from now and game technologies, it will blow us away, HL2 will be a joke...

To the thread starter: Just ignore 'em, or if you really must, try telling them that the Unreal 3 engine is not coming out for a while, and Source is coming out next month. (Hopefully)

Although I gotta admit Unreal 3 looks slick.

Your wrong there, a single character has more polys than a whole UT level, but you really need to watch the U3 Engine demonstration if you really think that HL2s and Doom3's graphics are better or equal...

The Unreal Engine itself is supposed to be done in or around 2006 I believe. That's before they can begin making a game for it. You'd be lucky to see it mid-2008

EDIT: Keep in mind that they're designing the system so that the newest GeForce 6800s will be obsolete, low end cards by the time any game is put out. That should give you a rough timeframe of when it will be released.

As has been said, Source is a current-gen engine and U3 is a next (or next-next-gen) engine. Remember how cool Source and Doom 3 looked back when the first media was released? Now we have games like Far Cry and Chronicles of Riddick that are close (or hell, maybe beyond) that. Source is still amazing due to its AI and physics (as well as its facial animations), but there are a number of places where it is lacking.

But who cares about that when people are still playing on the HL1 engine?! Source definitely will have a lot of life to it, and already it's been said that they'll continue upgrading it as time goes on. Just like HL1 (detail textures and mp3 playback, as well as sv_downloadurl and the more detailed models that have been released since the game came out).
