EXCLUSIVE: MAFIA 2 CONFIRMED!

Illusion Softworks is hard at work on a sequel to its 1930s-era gangster epic

12:50 Illusion Softworks, responsible for the recent, classy World War II squad-based shooter Hidden & Dangerous 2, has already begun work on a sequel to its 1930s gangster action-adventure Mafia, we can exclusively reveal. Not exactly as shocking as discovering a severed horse's head under your bed sheets, but fantastic news nevertheless.
Confirmation that Mafia 2 is underway came direct from the horse's mouth - sorry, it's horse day today - a spokesperson for Illusion revealing to us: "Yes, we're working on it", when questioned on what was happening in regard to a sequel to its crime epic.

Unfortunately, as far as Mafia 2 details are concerned, the developer is keeping lips firmly sealed. Although it would be natural to assume that Illusion will stick pretty close to the original in terms of setting and style, concentrating on gangster frolics in a fictional city in the 1930s, we'd love to see a sequel that's a little more contemporary.

A videogame paying homage to Goodfellas perhaps, or The Sopranos, would be a real treat.

No release date for Mafia 2 yet, and no platforms confirmed, although we expect it will appear on PC, Xbox and PS2. We contacted Mafia publisher Gathering to try and squeeze out further info, but it declined to comment in any way whatsoever on the sequel.

Awesome! I picked up Mafia two weeks ago.
I never really noticed it when it just came out, and i saw it in the bargain bin.
Decided to pick it up, and it hasn't disappointed me yet.

The game just oozes style. Can't wait for the next installment.

Excellent, Mafia was tops (aside from the shitty racing level.....without a joypad it's hard). It will probably be using the updated Mafia engine that Illusion used for H&D2, which is no bad thing as it looks good and has excellent physics. Heh I hope it hit's before the end of the year.

Well I just baught Mafia and it is one of the best and worst games I have played.
Good game except for the whole freezing and crashing everytime I play it.

Hopefully 2 won't be as horrendously buggy.

Since Tommy was kinda old when he got capped in the end of Maifa 1. I would guess they would pick up around that time. Maybe we will get a Sopranos kinda thing. AND THAT WOULD ROXORS

More like:

Tommy comes back to life as a mechanoid robot with super huge motion activated plasma pulse rifles and you get to step on people as they race around like in project gotham racing. You also can drive the batmobile with super high octain water feul and lots of guns and small packages of peanuts. When you finally realize the batmobile has stronger feelings for another car you break up and wonder the streets shooting old ladies with plasma beams that eminate from your crotch. You suddenly spot a 1986 Ford Tercel and instantly fall in love with the peice of junk, you get the car a makeover and fly around city 17 laughing at fat people.

Well I think it would be interesting if they did a post WWII 'godfather' period setting. Maybe they will still use New Haven as a setting also (but updated).

MAFIA was one of the best games I´ve ever played. It's localized damage inspired GTA-VC
(tires blown out) in the same way Vietcong inspired CoD aiming down sights.

Yeah the city looked lk a little small to the amount of organized crime interests on it.

Well, Tommy got capped in the 60's judging by the car the hitmen drove up in. So I would guess that may be around the time the new game starts. I don't remember it that well, but I think he may have had some kids. Maybe a revenge story where you rise in the ranks of the mafia to kill the current head of the family or something to avenge Tommy's death.

Or maybe they'll be smart and realize that they've totally capped off any decent way of continuing Tommy's story and just create something totally new .
