I actually searched the forums for it and yours was the first I came across. :p

Well, mine is the only real white background one!

damn, 18 is the legal drinking age here in NZ

I still haven't taken full advantage of my ability to drink legally. I'm 23 and I still haven't gotten drunk. Haven't really had the chance to do so.

There's a movement to lower the drinking age to 18 and it has the backing of numerous well known colleges.

I heard about that. I'm SO ready for it to happen!

*readies left hand with Crown and right hand with Goose*

I think that if they lower the drinking age back to 18, it's only so the government can tax more and collect more fines for drinking and driving charges, which, is as little as 1 drink now, at least where I live.

More young adults will die. Knowing this, there can only be one motive for lowering it. Money.

Explain.

In Virginia, there's no court process, no removal of your driver's license, no hike in car insurance... none of that, huh?

Also, their voiced reason for this is because they claim that deaths by alcohol poisoning will decrease significantly as well as the overall death toll, this being backed by several studies.

Congratulation.
What did you get?
Nothing. In fact I got up at 5AM and got to work at 6AM till 12PM. :P Though I will get a toolbox in the near future, tools, and Far Cry 2, LEFT 4 DEAD :P, etc.

I have tried beer once a long time ago and I hate it. I mean if I drank it a lot, I would get used to it. Wine is even worse cause it's like cough syrup.

Something to remind me of this day. :D

When I turned 13, Sep 11th happened 4 days ago. Yet my b-day present was the Half-Life: Platinum Collection and that got me into Valve games and gaming in general.

You don't think that people who are old enough to join the army is old enough to get pissed? At one point it's up to the responsibility of the individual. It's interesting that people who oppose the "nanny state" (I'm not saying you're one of them, Virus, just generally) still wanna prevent adults from deciding whether or not to drink alcohol.

Welcome back. Nice to hear about the son. :cheese:

Happy Birthday Hoolio

I don't think this will happen in our lifetime, and I would not like to see it in our lifetime. Alcohol is for them 21 ers, 18 year olds can wait the whopping 3 years. I don't think America has really proven it's responsibility with alcohol for it to lower the age.
If there's one thing more annoying than teenagers, it's drunk teenagers.

exactly. If they lower the age, it will be to get more money.

I understand what you are saying though, which is, just because they lower the age, they aren't lowering the responsibility of its use. You still get in trouble for misusing it. I understand you.

The reason the raised it to 21 was because of so many problems. I don't know if it helped or not, maybe someone can tell us.

Alcohol is a drug that lowers inhibitions to the point where you aren't making good judgment. Does that sound like a good idea for kids who are also driving for the first time as well?

They don't know how to drive well, it's probably night time, they've had a few drinks, they are easily peer pressured, they love their freedom and want to go go go. They don't have a lot of experience with ANY of these things.

My friend who was 18 hit a tree and that was the end of his life, which was just beginning. He was mature for his age, but maturity is not the same thing as experience.

By the way, I think the driving age should be raised to 18.

You might hate me for these things, but I do it cuz I love you.

No, no, I certainly agree with you on the whole drinking/driving thing. That will be a major factor in the debates of this. Clearly way too many teens die just from driving, let alone the deaths caused from alcohol. Try putting those together and...

Mainly, the movement is concerned with alcohol poisoning due to binge drinking, etc. If the drinking age is lower, people would be less prone to binge drinking. Greater availability means less of a demand to drink as much as possible in a certain time. There have been studies that do prove this (under 21: infrequent drinking, tons consumed; over 21: frequent drinking, less consumed). Though wouldn't that just cause the binging to start earlier in high school?

Either way, it doesn't really affect me since I'm not a huge fan of alcohol. And it's not like people can't get alcohol so very easily before you're of the legal age.

Anyway, that's not what this thread is about.

Happy birthday! Be careful, no 21 shots for 21 now.

Happy Birthday Hool!

In my opinion, people should be more worried about how young people are allowed to drive at. I think its more responsibility than drinking (though dont get me wrong, safe drinking is important too).

Age doesn't count at all. We have an inspector at work who is nicknamed the "asshole". He loves to be a total prick and yell at you (to make water cooler talk no doubt) that the weld doesn't look absolutely perfect, etc. He has said multiple times he loves getting paid to be an asshole to people. When his birthday came he took 2 days off. The day after was his hangover day. Work was backed up for a week and the company may have lost money. Now for me personally I worked 6 hours and I will go in tomorrow and probably work 10.5 hours like I usually do. It's all maturity and responsibility. You can be a mature 21 yr old guy like me, or an absolute prick at 50 something. Thanks everybody! :E

Happy birthday to you
you were born in the zoo
with the monkeys and the donkeys
and a big pile of poo

Just a shame you had to make your own Birthday thread D:

Anyway, happy Penis-day.
