Making CS textures and props work in HL2?

I know theres a way... I just havent quite figured it out entirely yet. Ive extracted certain textures and props with GCF and manually put them in the HL2 folder but I unfortunately end up with errors such as the cubemaps not being able to be built and the cs props having problems opening the VVD files n such. Is there a way to get these things to properly work in HL2?
Any positive input would be great.

I was able to get some models/textures to work by extracting them as well. But I've run into a problem with many models returning "propdata.txt" errors.

I was not aware of problems with VVD files or cubemaps.
