Alrighty first some pics of the process...
First up I had a think about me and what I couls do to represent myself on this forum. Many tell me I look evil and I have something for glowing eyes..so i just had to use gman with glowing eyes. I quickly grabbed the HL2.net gman avatar and added the glowing eyes in paint. After this things got a bit interesting for paint so into photoshop with it...
The white background gave me a bit of itrouble. I ended up using a quick magic select and inverting it. The problem I had then was dark edges where the background met the face of gman. So to fix this i selected parts of the face near the edge and inverted them. This gave the white edge effect but 2 new problems.. the face edges had gone from red to blueish and vica versa for the clothing. Second was the now black background where i had white. A quick pass with the pencil tool fixed the background up but what of the weird colors? This one almost had me...i spent about 20mins thinking about it till i thought to try the hue/saturation tool. This was an instant success: I adjusted the hue slider till it made the colors a perfect opposite on the problem areas i had selected. Okay now i had Gman with glowing eyes on a white background. Next was something to comemorate my |337 computer. (its getting a bit long in the tooth now but it still battles (or HL/quakes?) on day and night.) I had an MSN pic that used a modified ATI and AMD logo, showing both what my box is made of and my favourite hardware people.
Okay so we can blend the gman and amd/ati logos together. I quickly did an AAed selection of gman and pasted it into my MSN pic. I tried various opacity and blending settings till the face merged great with luminosity mode.
Now a new problem: my glowing eyes were a perfect red anbd this was now lost from the color-ignoring blend mode. This was easyier to fix than i expected: a quick pixel by pixel selection of the original gman w/glow image and paste it it..viola!
Ah but still it was not ready. The blending had also made the A of AMD quite hard to see (and it still is but its better - i was avoiding to much of a mustache effect on gman lol) so another select and blend with 25% opacity fixed that. The ear of gman had made a nasty black mark so a fix up with the pencil tool consumed another few minutes...
Zooming out I found the readability of the ATI logo had dropped badly due to the blending and size-reduction it had undergone. So i selected the black-greay areas and used the brightness-contrast tool to fix that up. I zoomed out...
My new halflife2.net avatar!
Oh yeah and if anyone wants the "white bg gman" ill put it up..another selection and paste fixed my glowing eyes i put on him
Hey i got an e-mail: It's my birthday! lol how fitting - birth of my avatar too.
Anyone got some ideas to improve that avatar?
