Video Games Reviews from a Communist POV

Age of Empires II:

"While the u.$. government and its lackey media constantly call on so-called moderate Muslims to turn their backs on so-called “extremist” Muslims to renounce terrorism, in the united $tates itself, there is no moderate faction to call on. Terrorism is part of the mainstream in Amerika. Proof is in this Microsoft game as well as in “Rise of Nations.”

Hearts of Iron review:

The Strategy First people are Liberal imperialists who have that kernel of settler-based fascism who are so common today in the imperialist countries, and they get in their stabs at Stalin this way: “You can always take the path of evil and actually build gulags to send the people to, to learn more about your greatness. That’ll improve their approval rating or at least what they answer in polls. And isn’t that what really counts?”

here's their review of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic:

"The universe of Star Wars is not unlike our own. There are the common people, and there are the "great" people. Unlike in our own world, however, the "great" people in Star Wars have their own caste of warrior slaves with special powers who, under the guise of "maintaining stability" move against any insurrection and crush any move to advance the society.

In this game, the player takes a role of one such warrior that calls him/herself a Jedi KNIGHT. The manufacturer doesn't even try to hide the connection to the exploitative feudal system of the Middle Ages.

Throughout the game, choices have to be made, which affect the outcome of the game. Naturally, to a brainwashed child mind, the most exploitative options have been made the simplest, and quickest. All in all, the Cossacks/Knights of the Old Republic is one of the most manipulative pieces of software ever devised. It leeches morality of young minds and prepares them to kill their peers to prevent a revolution. After all... the strong fascist knight shall always win.

Full Spectrum Warrior:

"This billboard for a videogame up at Fort Bragg in North Carolina proves MIM's point that video games are not politically neutral. Brainwashed by militarism, bored people take up countless militarist games and real world killing just for excitement. Even pornography video games are not as popular. If people had more social control of their lives instead of just the illusion of "freedom," they would not be playing so many games like this one. Under capitalism, game-makers produce what is profitable. Under the joint dictatorship of the proletariat of the oppressed nations over imperialism, games glorifying Uncle $am will be history and game-makers will flourish without having to cater to mindless sex and violence."

I still find their Red Alert and Fallout reviews hilarious.

Ugh, Socialism will always be cool in my book, but Maoism is just taking everything communism stands for too far.

What the hell?
Oh how I hate Maoism.

You know, I read this as "Moist Internationalist Movement Video Games Review"

I found this site a year or two ago, and it has provided many hours of amusement. The review of Shrek 2 is pretty funny:

Crazy Maoists said:
Gender bureaucrat enemy of the people "Fairy Godmother" lives a life of dogmatism following the scripts in "Cinderella," "Snow White" and such books that she keeps in her library. Living off the exploited workers, and selling hocus-pocus to the people like many other unproductive sector flim-flam artists we can think of today, Fairy Godmother spreads her poisonous visions of the future everywhere and lords over even the king himself.

Seeking to appropriate the sexuality of the king's daughter for her son, Fairy Godmother does her best to spread speciesist propaganda against ogres, one of which already married the king's daughter, thus making her unavailable to the Fairy Godmother's son. The evil speciesist propaganda finds fertile grounds in the king's mind and most of the people of the kingdom.

Highly class conscious characters including Pinocchio watching television immediately see through the pigdom's entertainment media, get off the couch and rush to help their compatriots locked up while filmed for a cop show. Once out of prison, our heroes rely on a toiling baker to launch on all-out assault on the bastion of reaction, the castle taken over by Fairy Godmother's plotting.

Using the past to serve the present as Mao instructed artists, the directors of "Shrek 2" rattle off cultural references like machine-gun fire. Making Godzilla sounds and tearing down Starbucks on the way to the castle, our heroes arrive in time to do battle with the Fairy Godmother. Borrowing a move from another movie, the king dives to absorb the attack from the Fairy Godmother and he ends up turning into a frog. By running the king-to-frog cultural reference in reverse and making a Godzilla type character a hero, the directors of "Shrek 2" show just how upside down and backwards our culture is.

Voices of Hollywood actors considered sexy go into "Shrek 2"---Antonio Bandera for example--but the rich and beautiful people do not appear in the film, which is an animation. The film explores the subjective notion of "cuteness" and ends up throwing the whole notion to the wind, much to the chagrin of the gender aristocracy and gender bureacracy everywhere. Even the cute, fluffy white dog died when Shrek dove into the concert pit, punk-style.

We only hope that there is a "Shrek 3," in which the newly-weds rampage through the rest of the society and culture. Otherwise the message will be that society has to be attacked just for the love of two people. Misguided people may watch this movie instead of doing something about the carnage in Iraq and when it comes their turn, they may lash out in violence "in the name of love." That's why there needs to be a "Shrek 3" in which the united workers of all species liberate themselves. We'd also point out to viewers that our heroes never killed anyone just for "love." Good riddance to the Fairy Godmother: she had it coming for a lot of reasons.

Oh yeah, I got invited to one of theior evil communistic meetings and before getting kicked out 30 seconds later, they all decided to do it on games. :p

Evil bastards. Commies. Anarchists.

After all... the strong fascist knight shall always win.

Edit2: Hmm, interesting. 1975 - Beijing. Must be a scanned copy of North Korean version.

Everything they said is true!
To quote my dear friend Peter Griffin.

What kind of stuff did they write in the Korean version? Please tell us.

Uh... For one, "We have to read Marx-Leninist papers in order to defeat capitalism and make it stay away"

"Foregnors have tried to make Right-wing reactionary elements and simply bad elements of us to become 'liberated', and to say again, that they are tring to make socialism into capitalism for us."

....wtf?

"WE SHALL ALL GO FORWARD TO THE WAY THAT MAO POINTS OUT TO US!"

..... *scared*

Oh they're so ker-ay-zay.
Like the people who claimed HL2 was a 1984-esque allegory for the oppression in the name of a "greater good" and erosion of civil liberties enforced upon us by the "War on Terror". After all - there's big propagandist TV screens. And everyone wears blue jumpsuits. And... Erm... There's zombies.
Yes, well done - that's precisely what it was.

Although, Full Spectrum Warrior is shockingly partisan and really rather brain-dead and occasionally verging on racist.
"Oooh, it's Johnny "Insurgent" Foreigner in <insert non-commital-yet-vaguely-plausible-sounding-Middle-Eastern-town-name-because-who-cares-they-all-sound-the-same-anyway here> who are out to get us brave liberators! Oh noes!"
Having just played through some of Ten Hammers with something of a professionally critical eye, I felt slightly uncomfortable - "subtlety" doesn't appear in THQ's vocabulary D:

I dunno, Stalinism was right there along Maoism.

Wow, it's always nice to know that "communists" are still alive and well. Even though Communism is the ultimate pipe dream. The reviews are hilarious though.

Stalin was neither a communist or a socialist. He was a bastard.

Well, Mao wasn;t much of a communist or socialist, he was a dumbass.

****ing commies, crapping all over my games with their commie poop

and why does everything even including their video game reviews sound like an angry biting manifesto, do they not teach sublety in their commie schools? Jeez!

Suppose they made a game called, Full Spectrum Insurgent: Ten Beheadings. Would you be offended if they called British Troops, "Infidels?", "Jews", "Zionist Dogs!" etc. in combat situations?

"Hey, there is our lovely enemy. I think he is a grand fellow."

*bang*

"Woe is it to be us, slaughtering such a nice man."

Okay, maybe racism is more likely in combat.

kirovman, we don't dislike his opinion because he's awesome or potentially really, really sexy. (I've not seen him in IRL, I can't judge Fap material left by myself with nothing).

However, we dislike his opinion because he just wants THQ's Full Spectrum Warrior rated T for Teen, or R for Respect. Whats true about war?

1. Its not for teenagers.
-and-
2. War was never about respect.

Get used to the mother ****ers, zehkies, needle blinking charlies, infidels, jerries, brits, crackers, krauts, etc. from games that intend to deliver realistic war environments, situations, or characters. It's about delivering a passion, belief, vocabulary, witt and character that would attempt at convincing us gamers that the game is sufficiently realistic, or, thats what its like in war (or over there in Iraq).

Its about disrespecting and dehumanizing your enemy as much as possible to make it easier in killing them. And this is suprising from a game like Full Spectrum Warrior? It's rated M for Mature for reasons ... did'nt it ever occur to some its language was one of those?
