Yes, i am new to mapping, if any of you saw my "Im new" post. I just had a few questions for some more experienced mappers.

I would like to make one brush have different textures on it, So, have the facade of a building on one side (Windows and all, like the composite/building texture) and concrete/bricks on the wall, but so far ive had some disspointing results that look crappy.

*EDIT* Im using the apply decals tool to make the textures different on each side. Good or bad idea?

Like that. What tool sould i use to create better looking textures on the other side of the brush?

Im making some rooms in my apartments map, and i was wondering how to import couches like from office into the apartments. Is it in the prefabs option? Please help, thanks.

One more, How do i import textures? I got a HUUGE texture pack, (The one in the sticky) and was wondering how to import it. And when i run my map, will the textures be packed into the .bsp, or will you have to make a textpack for the map to work? Thanks a lot!

To my knowledge (HL1 Hammer experience here) you would be best to make each "texture" its own brush. (Though I can honostly say I never touched the decal button in my life) That way you can scale and adjust the textures to fit your need. Just my oppinion. Worth what you're paying.

I was thinking of doing this, but I was afraid it might hog the recources. Maybe i should just carve the brush and leave the peice that i carved it with in there?

Make another brush for it, though I dont exactly see what you are asking from the picture. If there is alot of brushes you want to texture the same and have it be repeating nicely, select the faces and use "treat as one". Also making the new brushes really doesnt take resources, because every time a texture repeats the engine is drawing another polygon anyway, just like it would be drawing a new brush.

if you use the clip tool, you can select a brush and then chop it up. then you can apply different textures on the same "face" since its realy just multiple brushes. watch ichi's video tut on this forum.

It's hard to tell from the screenshot... what is it that you don't like about the appearence of the decals?
