I've recently started learning Hammer and I want to create my first full map hopefully to be released eventually. I need a couple of really stupid questions answered though just to put my mind at ease.

In a tutorial I was watching (video) it said something about how the units in Hammer can correspong to actual metres or feet or something to that effect, it didn't explain it though, does anyone know anything about this? Also what's a good sized room.

I thought that a hammer unit was an inch, I can't be sure on that but I do know that a human (such as the player) is 72 units high, but I can't really tell you what a 'good' size is since that completely varies depending on hundreds of different factors. I will tell you however not to just have a big room for the sake of it, a smaller area with lots of content and interesting visuals is much preferable to some enourmous cavern with very little populating it,

there's a menu in the tools menu (i think) that lets you choose what units hammer uses. it's not very good though

When your editing use the dev_measure textures. They show you how big everything should be. From the height of a wall to the staircase and door dimentions
