Hey im making my first map and I have a question about working doors. Umm how do you get them? heh. Sounds like a stupid question I know but I need to know. If any of you guys can help me out with getting working doors on my map it would be great. Im looking for school doors if you know what I mean. But if you can tell me how to get any type of working doors that would be great.

Thanks.

I'm gonna refer you to here:

Personally I think this is the best resource for learning how to map. Though the info is a little dated, nearly all of it is still relevant. Just scroll down to "doors" and it should answer your question.

Alright thanks guys. So far its helping me out just great.

The VERC taught me how to map, I'm sure it can help you, too :)

For a sliding door, you can go here.

And for a rotating door, you can go here.

Hope that helps :)

By the way, I like your avatar!

Yes doesnt it pwn?

Anyways I got my doors 2 work but now I got another question if you guys dont mind. How can I get different textures 2 use in my map? Im looking for school doors but I dont know how 2 get them. Also is there a way 2 just paste the texture where u want it or do you have 2 make it as big as the wall u have?

Thanks

Textures are packed in .wad files. To add other textures to your map, you need to add wads into Hammer. Tools, Options, Textures, Add Wad, go to your half-life or CS directory and select a wad (you can't select more than one wad at once). Then, to actually apply your texture to the doors, click on the "toggle texture application" button on the left toolbar (the textured cube). Click on the browse button and you'll have all your textures there. Double click on your favorite, and apply that texture on your doors.

To change the scale of the texture, select the face you want t change, and play with the X-Y values of the "face properties" window wich is supposed to be already opened. The shift X-Y values will move the textures up-down, left-right. The scale values will obviously scale your texture down or up. The bigger the number, the bigger the texture. The smaller the number for the scale, the smaller, mode detailed it will be BUT the more polys it will create wich means it will slow down the game. So you have to size your texture to look good but not too small. (Below 0.2 = too small)

Have fun :)

hey thanks pobz that site has all the tutorials I need :D

Also thanks 2 ti1337 i figured out wat 2 do.

Last question im hoping so I dont keep bothering you guys. heh

Is there any possible way 2 move wat I have already done 2 a certain spot on the grid without redoing it or going piece by piece? cuz i sort of ran 2 the edge of the grid and i still got things 2 do with it. Any help?

Thanks

Go in the top viewport, make a huge selection block that includes all the level geometry. Go in the side viewport and drag the little white squares to stretch the selection box so it includes everything. Press ENTER. All your brushes will be selected. Now click on one of them and drag them where you want them to be.

i knew there was a reason for that select tool! lol

Thanks

YourMom, could you, at least, read all of the posts before replying instead of reading the title and post something randomly? And stop reviving old threads (I'm talking about the other threads you replied today in the mapping forums). Thanks
