I just got done with an excruciating 3 hour round. I can barely feel my fingers and wrists. No time limit, no sudden death, instant respawn. Just wondering about some of your longest matches.

3 hours is rather respectable (instant respawn ftl tho'). It's great to hear that it's possible to have insanely long games because that means there's actually a very well done balance which means that equal teams should never actually be able to overcome the other.

My longest TF2 game has been only about 45 minutes. The absolute longest game I've played ever has been 8 hours of Natural Selection tho'... :)

8ish hours of a Red Alert skirmish battle against a gazillion enemies.

Oh man I remember having intense natural selection battles, that game was the shiznit.

I still remember that match. It was during the 1.04 era which meant rather long games in general but this was how it went...
1) Three hive kharaa vs almost fully teched marines, pushed 'rines to their start point with one res node.
2) Three hive kharaa vs fully teched marines, marines holding up for a very long time.
3) Marines sneak attack! One hive kharaa against resource crippled but fully teched marines.
4) One hive Kharaa is now out of resources, rines take over almost the entire map.
5) Kharaa throws everything they can at the last hive's entrance at marines and manage to take back one hive.
6) Two hive kharaa with 4-5 resnodes against rines holding everything else.
7) Resource fight, took over an hour. Eventually Kharaa got the upper hand.
8) Horde of Onii vs rines-in-a-can <3

Kharaa eventually won and holy crap it felt great. GG:s, GF:s all around...don't see those in games anymore.

About 4 hours on that constant dustbowl server, had about 500 points at the end :D.

But 2Fort doesnt last nearly as long as customs, 2Fort lasts for around 50minutes before going sudden death, while customs will never end until the server resets...

I dont even play NS anymore... I thought the initial releases were perfect, then they kept adding more stuff, and changing things eventually I lost interest. But the great games I did play were always amazing and had depth.

God damn do I miss NS.

I actually started playing more combat than anything else (yes I know....) but I had some hysterically funny games.

My favourite NS tactic as comm was on NS_BAST to immediately send all my marines down to the green tunnel between the refinery hive and water treatment, and relocate my base at the eastern edge of that green tunnel. If done quickly enough it was near-impenetrable, and sieges could reach the hive. Once that hive was under my control, I'd send marines to main aft junction, and into the little tunnel that ended up in a skylight over the tram tunnel. From there it was possible to place a couple of siege guns in the little tunnel and kill the Feedwater hive. The aliens took ages to cotton on to that tactic :)

I really hope they do a great job on NS2 - I would happily pay a lot of money to play NS again.

Oh boy.

I used to kick so much ass on MvM. Eh. Good times.

Long TF2 rounds aren't interesting to me. It's just too repetitive. What's the point?

I think I've spent about 4+ hours on cp_skyscraper, and about the same on some duel map I forget the name of. That's strictly speaking in "longest TF2 round" terms.

But for marathon gaming in any game...20 straight hours of Deus Ex, no food, no bathroom breaks, no dozing off.

Heh whaddya know, the map I was actually talking about was ns_bast :D We had the Refinery hive in the middle part...

I always hid myself if we lost, it turned into sort of tradition of "find Para!" on my regular servers. My favorite hiding places where inside alien resnodes as rine and various nooks and crannies in just about any map; My favorite hiding place ever in Bast was in the light pipe of Atmospheric Processing in which I had managed to build all three chambers (regen+silence+cloak gorge) even though marines had relocated there.

And I agree with nofx, NS was best during the 1.04 era. Then Flayra got idiotic and made it too fast and even added Combat. I hope NS2 doesn't have Combat, it sucks.

heh, nothing was funnier than chuckle spam :D Hiding in the tunnel at the side of the marine's base, can't remember the map name, build a defence chamber in there, then change to a skulk. I'd spend bloody ages running out, wasting a few marines, and dashing straight back in to heal, until they got nade launchers :D

Then they changed the map so you couldn't build in there :( And they stopped people from chuckle spamming :(
