You're f*cking right he was.

Man, when I was down in LA on vacation, I was hanging around outside this Kinkos waiting for some friends to print some stuff. And they came and got me because they didn't know all what they had to do (bah, simpletons). So I go in and help them, and then some other friends who waited outside rush in and they were like, "Oh my God, Mark Hamill just got into a cab outside! We got to say hello and he waved to us."

And I turned to my friends who were printing things and I said to them, "I'm going to kill you."

I do a wicked Kevin Conroy Batman. I found one day while reciting some lines from "Heart of Ice" that I can get his voice down perfect by raking the inside of my throat (that's probably the best way to explain it). And I missed the chance to do some Batman lines with the best Joker ever. That will always kill me. ;(

Also, did anyone notice that he made a veiled reference to sex? LOL not something one would expect on Batman: The Animated Series.

There were a lot of those in BTAS, actually.

"Hey puddin', don't you wanna rev your Harley? Vroom, vroom!"

Things like Roxy Rocket riding the bomb and having an orgasm. Things like this:

I've got porn of Harley drawn by Bruce Timm himself, too (which I obviously can't post). But the show was very sexual.

This was on the PG-rated feature film, there's a little more leeway there. Plus there's some blood in the movie too.

Heh, isn't the "vroom vroom" part from Mad Love? I think I have that episode saved on my HD.

Yep, Mad Love. I remember hearing an interview where they were afraid that episode would never make it because it WAS too sexual, WB would never allow it. But somehow it got through.

Yeah, he could have been darker, but he was still brilliant. Have the first 2 Batman animated series on DVD.

I needs that.

Stupid Bat-Embargo, cutting the Joker out of Justice League. Oh, man was The Question cool in that.

He played the part the perfect amount of psychotic...

Espcially the bit where he started imitating Roscharche temporarily. ("Not alternative future. Time loop.")

Best part was when he was running over Darkseid's parademons in his car. That was actually the first I ever saw of The Question. Made me stop and go, "That was awesome; who IS that guy?!"

Also, I don't know if anyone in this thread knows, but you can find most episodes of Batman:TAS on video.aol.com or veoh.com. They don't have all of them, though...I'm looking for "His Silicon Soul" and I can't find it. :(

But they do have a lot of good ones on here. Heart of Ice, Joker's Wild, Feat of Clay, Perchance to Dream. Plus Mask of the Phantasm is on Veoh, but you have to download their VeohTV program (which I'm not going to do, personally).

I may just end up buying Batman: TAS, TNBA, and Batman Beyond on DVD. I suppose they're worth it. They are certainly far better than The Batman.

this thread should be retitled " Mark Hamill was the best cartoon joker ever" ...he doesnt compare to Jack Nicholson. I've watched the movie over and over just for his scenes ..everythng else is ho hum in comparison

I gave my thread this exact title for a reason.

but then that would mean you are indeed crazy

Heh, probably.

I thought Nicholson gave a terrific performance. However, I grew up on Batman: The Animated Series. I saw it before I saw Tim Burton's Batman. So, I suppose when I think of the joker, I think of the one from the series. I probably should have put an IMO on the title. Oh well.

Jack Nicholson is overrated as Joker.

jmmeney whilkers you've gone karazy ..one of his best roles imho, it was the actors playing off of him that paled in comparison ..Keaton and Bassinger were just horrible in their roles

I thought he was prefectly cast ...everyone else was poorly cast ..we'll see if Heath Ledger does the role any justice but for my money Nicholson is the joker

Jack Nicholson played Jack Nicholson playing the Joker. I love his performance but he wasn't the Joker. You can't read The Killing Joke, you can't read Arkham Asylum, you can't read The Man Who Laughs with Jack Nicholson in mind because while he was a good Joker, he wasn't THE Joker.

Ledger's not even going to be the Joker, I can tell you that. He's going to be a very bum-ish Joker, more maniacal but not as suave. He's very dirty. Have you seen the pictures of him robbing the bank or the shots where Batman is interrogating him? He's a bum with sloppy makeup and greasy hair. That's not the Joker either. He might be good but he won't be THE Joker.

Hell the only live-action Joker who played the character perfectly (to the interpretation of the comics at the time) was Cesar Romero. Everyone afterward has been a portrayal of some aspect of the Joker, but never encompassing the whole. If Mark Hamill looked anything like the Joker he'd be the only person who could play the role and play it well.

Luke Skywalker is the Joker! Hooray. Also Fire Lord Ozai.

Jack Nicholson played Jack Nicholson playing the Joker.

i disagree ..if you've watched any of his films you'd know he plays against he usual type

I love his performance but he wasn't the Joker. You can't read The Killing Joke, you can't read Arkham Asylum, you can't read The Man Who Laughs with Jack Nicholson in mind because while he was a good Joker, he wasn't THE Joker.

that's a rehash of the joker ..that's like saying Miller's Dark Knight is the batman when it's just an interpretation ..as you've stated Caesar Romero IS the joker ..at least to how he was originally created ...all else is just rehashing comic book history to suit the times but for all intents and purposes Caeser Romero IS the joker as originally envisioned: campy ...much in the same way that Burgess Meredith IS the penguin ..as originally envisioned

I just dont see Mark Hammil being to pull it off, even if he looked th epart ..he's just not manic enough

Eh, Jack Nic really wasn't a good Joker. Hamill has the laugh and the voice I think, but he still isn't twisted enough.

Jack improvised much of his role in Batman ..his personality just suits the character imho ..Hammil, while good, still seems to just deliver his lines ..not that it isnt brilliant delivery, it's just that with nicolson his insanity was believable ..you never knew what he was going to do next ..that unpredictability fit the character to a t

Again, I loved Nicholson's performance, but its just a matter of preference for me.

Also, mark hamill's performance in Batman Beyond: return of the joker is extremely dark and twisted.

Oh, I've already seen that one. It's awesome. Though Robin killing Joker wtf.

Jack Nicholson played Jack Nicholson playing the Joker.

Couldn't have said it better. He put on a great performance, but it just didn't embody the Joker for me.

To me, the Joker has this evil inside...he's far more sinister than what Nicholson showed. Nicholson's Joker was still too goofy for me...I found myself laughing too much. The Joker should always be the only one laughing.

That's not funny.

The thing that sells me on Mark Hamill isn't just the laugh, it's really the way he can capture the range of the Joker. He can be suave, he can be psychotic, he can be obsessive. What really places him as the Joker for me is that no matter what mood he's acting, he always seems to get the joke. It's all just wildly hilarious to him. Kill a bunch of people with poison gas? That's a riot. Stalk a man for two years and threaten his wife and child? ("Joker's Favor," great episode) Ha-HA! Drop Batman in a tank full of piranha? No, wait, that doesn't work; the piranha can't smile, and that's no good. What good is it to kill the Batman if you can't have a laugh while you're at it? Hamill really nails the Joker's personality when delivering his lines. And THEN the laugh.

Jack was like...as I said, Jack was the more sophisticated side of the Joker. Not so manic. In fact, the way Nicholson is, he's a very dry actor. So when he does the Joker, it's not really that funny to him. He has a few laughs, but they're not the laughs of a man driven to insanity.

Damn if he doesn't have a great presence though, and some of the most quotable lines.

Watching this, I think I like the cartoon better. The part where he was talking to the corpse seemed spot on, but the rest was weird. Maybe I just prefer the cartoon because it's a cartoon.
