I have talked to a lot of people about the whole series, and while its commonly agreed that the first moie was phenomenal, the other two are subject to scrutiny. Many people who I talked to hated both 2 and 3, and some just hated 3. I personally thought reloaded was pretty awesome, and that it carried the story along quite well, it was just too bad that 3 couldnt finish the job in my book. What is your opinion on the second movie?

I liked them all :dozey: but I still consider the first the best because of its philosophical approach and whatnot.

They just couldn't recreate the sense of mystery and awesomeness that pervaded the first one. Once they thoroughly explained what the matrix was, the series just lost steam. The Wachowskis got a little bit too wrapped up in the universe they created. They concentrated too hard on building the mythology and not enough on telling a compelling story. Also, by the time Reloaded was released, bullet time was so played out that it was almost a joke.

I liked all three, but the last two just really aren't on the same level as the first one.

The first half feels like a soap opera and the rest of the movie drags. There are about 15 minutes of good cinema right after the Merovingian's speech where they chase the keymaker and Neo fights the folks in the Chateau. That was great. The rest was mediocre.

the second and third were great movies. they just sucked as matrix movies. personally i enjoyed the third one very much for some reason. the second was alright, but the first one continues to be my favorite movie and the record holder of the most times watching any movie. (8 i think ;))

I loved the second one, I bowed before the first one in awe, and I spat and growled on the third one (hated it).

Exeggerating to get my point across ;)

I agrre, 1 was really good, but 2 is like WTF ?

They made the story wayyy to complicated, with the doors and the architect, that was plain stupid, it diden't really help the story, it only made it woars.

I liked all 3 in a special way; 1 was the "scientific" movie, 2 was the "action on earth" movie, and 3 was "the action on the real world and the end".

interesting thoughts. I too bow down to the first movie, as it was perfect. As for the second, even though it had to live up to the bullet time rip-offs of other movies, it blew me away. The burly brawl scene made a statement. The copiers couldn't make bullet time as good as the original. period. The whole movie built up to the destruction of zion, and I feel like it did that well, while showing off Neo's new found powers in the matrix.

The third has almost no matrix scenes, and sadly thats what its downfall was. While the end fight showed off the power of Neo and Smith, it was too outrageous with the air fighting and the invincibility. Logically, Neo and Smith would become that powerful but it just lacked the feel of the matrix.

Overall the movie wasnt like the first two in its 'style', and then it wastopped off with a depressing ending. I can see why many people, including me, didnt like it.

How was the ending depressing? I found it to be too positive myself.

The Burly Brawl scene was rediculous. Neo fighting 10 smiths = cool. Neo fighting 100 smiths with chirpy music = overdone and silly.

They trapped themselves at the end of the first movie by establishing that Neo cannot be killed in the matrix. Hell, he can barely be hurt. What's the point of even trying to fight him? During the entirety of the burly brawl I was just like "WTF Smith, you shot him ten times in the chest, what is beating him up gonna do?"

No, for me the downfall of the 3rd part was that the movie lacked any kind of finality. All of the great trilogies (Rings, Star Wars) had endings that cannot be taken back and that firmly and completly seal the story (ie: ring is destroyed, republic/dark vader is killed).

Now what about the matrix. The movie ends with the doubt of neo being dead/alive. No finality. But the worst of all, the proverbial kick in the groin or twist of the nipple (depending on your gender), is how they finish up the matter of the war between the war and the machines. A TRUCE. A ****ing truce that can be broken withing the first week by either side quite easily and it starts all over again.

I wanted finallity. All I got is a movie begging for a sequel.

for myself, i enjoyed all three of the movies.. obviously number 1 more than the other two.

i realize that..well expectations for number 2 and 3 sky-rocketed (kinda just like how expectations are high for HL2 :p ) after number 1 and pple mainly forgot to watch these movies for what they were.

i mean when u have the pressure of delivering a movie to the level of what number 1 was, its pretty hard to re-create that feeling and have a uniqness to number 2 and 3.

think of it this way.. if they gave pple more of the same in numbers 2 and 3 that was in number 1, then pple would say "yawn, seen this, done that, next please!"

i just watched every Matrix movie for what its worth.. and while the two don't compare to the first, they were pretty good i'd say.

Could there be more Matrix movies in the future? If there are, U hope they don't screw up

If they do continue the series, it would have to be much later (about 10-20 years after the original saga). A completely new cast and a new goal.

The problem is that the Matrix movies are just technical showcases now. The mystery was gone after the original.

there was talk about a fourth movie, but thats all rumors. They would need to do it soon, because if someone else played neo, it wouldnt be right (just like how the oracle had to be different actress -another thing that took away from #3 too bad she died)

Definitely agree with you there.

Even though the burly brawl was 'pointless' it showed how smith would stop at nothing, not even neo, to rule the matrix. Also, when smith was talking before the fight, a lot of the "why" and "how" questions were answered regarding smith's return.

If you didnt like the fight scene, then you didnt like it. We agree to disagree on that. I thought the music was well done. Don Davis is a well known composer.

I liked the Matrix score for the most part. Besides, the part of that song I don't like wasn't done by Davis, it was done by Juno Reactor.

Finally, I thought it was obvious Neo was dead, just from parallels to the bible which are made throughout the trilogy. Neo sacrifices himself so that Smith can be stopped and humanity and the machines can coexist. (temporarily anyway)

I liked them all three.

No, I personally think it would be much better if it was before the rebellion and before the found Neo.

I thought, as you said, the original was phenomenal, and the rest two were just very good movies, nothing spectacular.

Reloaded and Revolutions were rubbish. The Wachaowski brothers got far too self-indulgent, the plot was increasingly ropey and needlessly convoluted, the dialogue was appalling and the only good character was Agent Smith (who was absolutely great) - even Lawrence Fishbourne managed to screw up playing Morpheus; far too over-acted.
The fight scenes were good (although where's the tension if Neo can't, for all intents and purposes, be killed?), as were the effects but just overall hugely disappointing. Plus, Zion was rubbish.

I agreed that the first one was better of all the 3 movies

The "rave" scene in ReLoaded was just plain...awful!! I could not take Morpheus seriously in that dodgy waist coat thing, he looked like he was speaking at a convention for homosexual rights or something!

I love all 3. I think people were disappointed because they expected them to have the same *wow* factor as the first Matrix.

Every time I watch the sequels I like them more. After watching Reloaded for the first time I thought "meh". When I got the movie on DvD, I watched it a few times, and I started to like it more. After a few times it gets alot better. I started to just accept the differences and it was alot more likable.

When I first saw Revolutions though I thought it was awesome. I loved the final fight between smith and neo (Maybe because I used to be a DBZ fan?) and now I just love all 3.

If you didn't want to read all that, basically I just said "I like the movies better every time I watch them. Give em another try and see if you like them now.

My thoughts exactly.

The Matrix is my favorite movie ever created, and I still love it. When I saw Reloaded, I at first thought it was better, but the wow-factor has kind of worn off. I still love the action scenes and the architect, though. It was fun speculating on what he meant.

But the third was a complete disaster. It shamed the Matrix name - it was a generic action movie, pretty much. The Zion assault scene was upwards of 20 minutes long with no variety whatsoever. Watching it made me physically tired. The final fight was way too dramatic, and I was too restless at the time to really enjoy it. And while the first had interesting religious undertones, implying that Neo is Jesus and so on, the third unnecessarily slapped you in the face with blatantly obvious and unimaginative religous imagery.

I wrote way too much.

1 was pretty much the best movie ever. (Of course, I say that about a lot of movies. :P)

2 was really fun to watch, and the only part me and my friends really disliked was that whole "rave" nonsense (and that it ends with "to be continued"). It had some of the best fight scenes I've seen. And the whole car chase was great.

The plot didn't really gel over too well, what with all the doors and the architecht and all the other confusion, but I just assumed that it would be clarified by events in #3.

But 3 sucked. Neo spends half the movie unconcious. None of the matrix-style fight scenes from 1 and 2 were there. It was just 1/2 an hour of CGI robots shooting CGI robots. I was like "Who the feck are Link and Naiobe and that girl with the rocket launcher? Where's Neo or Trinity or Morpheus? Or anyone who actually matters?"

Besides the 1-minute sequence where they kick some guards in the face, and the fight at the end, it wasn't a Matrix movie at all.

The music was good though, but they didn't have anything like the fun variety from the first two. Don Davis and Juno Reactor did everything.

The only truly awesome part was Agent Smith.

I loved them all, except for the last bit on m3 where neo died and did not free any humans, I WAS a bit disappointed about it.

I agree. he is the best actor for that role in the matrix.

No shit, the orical said at the end he is going to return, but I thought "somebody got his ability one day will show up".......................I mean wow if you are 100% right.

The matrix 4,5,6 would be awsome.

Read above, the story will continue in The Matrix Online. It's a huge series that jumps platforms.

I know about the matrix online, but I wouldn't imagine that Neo is still alive.

I hop MATRIXOnline worth it. ;)

matrix online looks pretty cool. Ill try it when it comes out.

indeed. He was the only character that really carried through the entire trilogy. IMO the best "bad guy" ever.
