Another review, this one from Finnish outlet Suomen Kuvalehti, compares the John Moore-directed Max Payne to a movie from reviled director Uwe Boll, noting that "the choice between [Max Payne and a Boll film] is like deciding whether you want plague or tuberculosis, but if forced, I would say yes to Boll."

Meh, it looked like it would've been decent, guess not.
edit: Still looks like it'll be a decent popcorn flick either way.

I don't need a reviewer to tell me that it is shit. Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis,Ludacris? No, thx.
 
Bad director ... censored rating ... inane casting ...

Apart from a trailer that didn't completely suck there was never much hope for this movie in the first place.
 
Bah, I was actually looking forward to this a bit, the trailers looked pretty good. I never thought the script would live up to the writing in the games, but at least the action could've been decent. Ah well, I'm still holding out a glimmer of hope that it could be oka...

Well said & exactly right Remus.

I'm a Mark Wahlberg fan. I didn't like his music, but I do very much like him as an actor. I have not seen him in Max Payne yet, but I thought he did a great job in "Shooter". His last movie, "The Happenings" sucked as a movie, but I liked the char he played. Pretty good in "POTA" as well.

Is it just me, or does it seem that the majority of "official" reviewers always have mostly negative things to say about the movies they review?

Dang. I was hoping this wouldn't suck. When I saw the trailer with the stupid Valkries my guard went up. I'll probably still see it anyway.
 
From the trailer it looks absolutely nothing like the game. Therefore I am not interested.
 
Maybe they should have adapted "Lords and Ladies" or "The Pink Flamingo"
 
the story was confusing and poorly told. slow as **** especially considering the fact that it was based on MAX ****ING PAYNE.

I'm about 95% certain the whole concept of a movie trailer is to make the movie look attractive to prospective viewers.

This movie was ****ing HORRENDOUS. Worst movie of the year hands down. How do you **** this movie up seriously who approves this garbage. Even the getto, loser kids were bored.

Executives who surely must know the end product will be **** don't want to put any effort into it and although being a critical bomb will have huge profit margins because they know gamers will see it. That's who.

Well I saw it for free on the interwebs, so those hacks didn't get my money. :hmph:

I really wanted to like this movie, i really did, but it was just so god damn BORING! Jesus ****ing Christ!:frown:

If you want to see a "cop on the rampage" type of movie done properly, just watch the Die Hard films, and forget this garbage...

I don't think they will be making any money on this. Everyone was bored even the stupid people..:o

Seems weird they would pick Max Payne as a game to turn into a movie if they're trying to get gamers to turn out. Max Payne always seemed like a cult hit to me. I think it's more likely they just wanted an easy art style and storyline to steal.

I guess the wait for a good game to movie conversion goes on :P
 
It was pretty ****ing bad. It might be one of the better game-to-film adaptations but it was still really bad.

Only positive thing I have to say about it is that the visual style was quite nice and true to the source material. Other than that it was terrible, with the pacing and casting being particularly awful.

And ****ing sound editing. Seriously ... you'll notice it. I don't see how they could **** that up, but they did. Might have been partially my theater though.
 
In the sense of game-to-film movies, was it better than Silent Hill?


I liked Silent Hill, so that will probably decide if I watch this.
 
I would rather watch Silent Hill tbh. This movie had me bored to tears and I was ready to walk out. It's not even a movie that's fun to make fun of with your friends. I hate it so much. ****!

Silent Hill was GREAT. That movie to me is pretty much 90% Game to movie. Max Payne is just horrible you cant even watch it as its own movie it just sucks.

Negative, everyone i went to see it with had a blast with that movie. It was a mix of none gamers, gamers who played all games, and just gamers. Everyone loved it.

Max Payne has nothing. No story, no action, no MAX PAYNE!

Silent hill is usually regarded as one of the better Video Game movies or..really the only one thats actually decent. I mean besides a few changes here and there it seemed to stick to the story fairly well.


and yeah god damnit this movie ****ing sucked.
