max size for alpha map?

Does hammer have a problem with textures 2048px and larger with alpha channels? my alphas arent showing up for materials larger than this. thanks for everyones help so far. some pretty cool stuff coming.
 
If you really are using textures bigger than 1024x1024 then I would say to stop it now :) 512x512 are standard textures, 1024 are only used for very high quality characters. Nothing uses more than 1024 in HL2. The engine is limited too 2048 but its way to high res.
 
What for you would need to use a 4096x texture? That's just plain insane..:x
 
Its not as insane as you think . The texture is actually 2048x256 so is the same as 1024x512. It is for a football field end zone texture decal, which sort of needs to be relativly high resolution.
 
You could use the same 512x256 texture instead for the grass and lines and use decals for numbers.
 
I have two grass variation textures, the lines are their own primitives with white grass textures, there are number decals as well as an end zone decals.
 
Yea this is what I mean, use 2 or 3 or 20 512x256 textures.
