I noticed that the Painkiller SDK can use Maya to make levels. Is this also true for HL2?? Thanks.

Yes, an exporter for Maya will be included in the SDK. For more modeling info on HL2 check the HL2 Faq at the VERC.

Painkiller builds its levels differently to HL2, you can only import geometry as in props, items and characters/enemies into HL2.. to build the actual map in a 3D app you'd need something that can convert polygons to brushes, there's a few knocking about and I linked to a Max one months ago. The drawback to doing that though is you can easily forget the limitations of brushes when working in a 3D app and come time to convert, your work can end up being ruined when the convertor makes it brush format and removes the parts it can't convert.

I'm looking forward to afforementioned exporter, playing with the cut down XSI was entertaining for a while, but i'd really rather use maya and 3ds.

P.S.
