McCain supporter beaten by Obama supporter, "B" carved into face

A knife-wielding man robbed a McCain-Palin campaign volunteer and etched a "B" into her face after he saw a McCain bumper sticker on her car, the woman told Pittsburgh police.

Ashley Todd, 20 told police she was using an ATM at Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street in Bloomfield just before 9 p.m. Wednesday when a man approached her, put a knife to her throat and demanded money.

Todd told police she handed the man $60 she had in her pocket and stepped away from him. The man then noticed the bumper sticker on her car, which was parked in front of the ATM, and became angry, she told police.

He made comments to Todd about Republican presidential candidate John McCain and punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground, police said Todd told them.

"He continued to kick and punch her repeatedly and said he would teach her a lesson for supporting John McCain," said police Chief Nate Harper.

The man scratched a backward "B" onto Todd's right cheek, she told police.

Police said she described the attacker as black, about 6-foot-4, and said he was wearing dark-colored jeans and a black tank top. She said he had a knife with a 5-inch blade and ran from the scene on foot, Harper said.

Police planned to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd, 20, because her statements about the attack conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred, police said.

Edit: Yeah, this has got to be bullshit, everyone knows when you get shiner like that, part of it swells, ESPECIALLY if it's bad enough to be that dark. There is NO swelling what so ever in either eye. I am fairly used to seeing make up designs since my brother is a make up artist, so I can definitely tell when somebody is doing a shitty make up job. Real black eye's have a lot of dark blue and dark red tones, they are not just black eye shadow.

I'll be surprised if this isn't BS.

I hate seeing horseshit like this. It really is nonsense. The average American only has about as much access to information about the election as anyone else on the planet with a net connection or TV. I happen to know dozens of Democrats and Republicans personally by way of my girlfriend's family, friends and colleagues, but I would still discount that experience as a mere anecdotal extension to the bulk of the information I collect from the mass media. That's not to mention the fact that this is a period in which any informed person from anywhere in the world is going to be talking about matters relating to the American general election, since it's going to be something that affects everyone in the world.

The first instinct of too many Americans when they see a political opinion from someone overseas - and generalisations ahoy, but it's usually Republicans on the defensive that do this - is to cry 'WTF do you know about America, you're from [insert country here]!' The truth is you don't know how many Americans nuri knows. Even if he didn't know any IRL, he could still formulate an educated guess as to the tide of public opinion over there from reading forums, blogs, news articles, comments... Hell I've even heard that some people actually travel to the country in question nowadays. I would LOVE if Americans started taking an interest in British politics and commenting on stuff they found interesting, or repulsive, or whatever (although tbh I'm losing track of British politics myself nowadays, too depressing to follow).
