me - really really stupid - resolution question

ok i did something really stupid. HL2 works fine on my machine. 3 ghz , 6600GT, no problem. Playing on a 17inch LCD on 1280 1024 (native resolution).

I was playing about with the resolution and accidentally clicked 1280x960 which my monitor does not support.

Now all i see is a black screen with "input not supported" coming from my monitor's menu no doubt.

How do I get out of this?

I really dont want to install again. If my only option is to reinstall the game then I should keep my saves - which file directory would they be in?

Right-click on HL2 in steam games, press "Launch Options" and type in -w 1280 -h 1024

That should work. Once you're in, change the video settings. Then you can remove the launch options and it should be fixed.
