Anyway, it's not a big-budget hollywood blockbuster, but it's being develped by Mainframe Entertainment (one of my favorite Canadian Entertainment companies). The company started out doing childrens shows with mature themes and adult humor, but are now slowly working their way into the movie industry. Mainframe has the creativity and artistic ability to pull it off if they can put the same level of quality into this project as they did with some of their earlier works.

“MechWarrior continues our move towards developing proprietary properties in animation that have
already established themselves in the toy and gaming worlds as long-term brands,” said Rick Mischel,
CEO Mainframe Entertainment. “With this new action-packed DVD adventure, fans will be able to see
MechWarrior come to life in a whole new way.”

And it sounds like they will be faithful to the source material.
If this is a successful release, Mechwarrior could be making a comeback. :D

should be interesting to see it develop, hopefully it won't get scrapped :D

haha, i remember few years back when i was about 11, back then i loved Mechwarrior 3. Just hope this film will be anything

this is possibly the best 'movie' news, ever.

i've been playing the mechwarrior series for years and i own all of them : )

I hope they go with the more realistic looking approach other than the fancy looking cartoonified stuff.

Here's some examples of their earlier work:

First up is Reboot. Their first (and quite possibly their best) series, that was literally miles ahead of anything else CG when it debuted in 1994 (even the movie industry too). It was the world's first 100% computer animated TV program. The following is a synopsis from the main website:

A bustling high-tech metropolis that exists within your personal computer. The electronic environment in Mainframe is controlled by the user. When a user decides to play a computer game, havoc ensues. Games can strike anywhere at any time, forcing the inhabitants of Mainframe to compete with the user.

Enter Bob, his format : Guardian. Originally from the Supercomputer his job is to defend Mainframe from not only User Games Cubes but from Viral Adversaries as well.

"They say The User lives outside the Net and inputs Games for pleasure. No one knows for sure, but I intend to find out." - Bob

Below is a poster for their third (and best) season, Season 3:

Next is their foray into the Transformers universe with Beast Wars (entitled Beasties in Canada because of the use of the word "War" in the title). This show is on par, and even better than the original Generation One Transformers TV show from the 80's. It features many adult themes as the series went on too. Things like suicide, shakespeare, sexual innuendo, creationism; this show had it all. The following is a synopsis from TV Tome:

Trapped on a primitive planet, two opposing factions, the Maximals and the Predacons, of Transformers, a race of sentient robots, fight over its precious Energon. Soon they discover that there are other forces at work on the planet - a powerful alien race that does not approve of their presence. And as they delve deeper into the planet's history, they uncover a terrible secret, one that must not be allowed to fall into the wrong hands, or their entire race's very existence could be threatened.

Finally there's Shadow Raiders (a k a War Planets in the US), one of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time. Synopsis from TV Tome:

At the destruction of Planet Tek at the hands of the planet-consuming Beast planet, Princess Tekla is the sole survivor. In desperation, she reaches a system where four planets named respectively Fire, Bone, Rock and Ice who continually raid each other for the resources that each planet needs. She crash lands on planet Ice where one such raid by the Rock people was confronted by the Ice people. A raiding party from the Beast attacks to silence her, but while they exterminate almost all the combatants, they are beaten back with the help of Graveheart, a miner of the Rock people and King Cryos of Ice. Princess Tekla appoints Graveheart with a massive critical task. Against all odds, he must build an alliance among the worlds to face the horror that is to come.

Any fan of Star Wars, Stargate, Star Trek, etc; would probably enjoy Shadow Raiders because many of the themes and ideas are borrowed and executed so well in this show. There's plenty of action, exploration, and adventure to be had with this amazing series. I highly recommend it.

Anyway I hope that Mainframe does a great job with the Mechwarrior DVD movie. And hopefully I've given you an idea of what to expect. This has the potential to be awsome. :bounce:
