hmm, i found this handy codec detector on the microsoft website, and according to it i have no codecs installed on my computer...even after i tried installing all the codecs seperately >_<

a codec wouldnt be the problem usually when i have to close wmp is because the cpu is being used 100% have you looked to see if you have any unessary programs running?

nope still doesn't work...i tried disabling as many processes as i could but it still didn't work

Do you have hardware acceleration enabled in the player? Not sure whats going on tbh.

i tried turning down the it down some and now it plays...without video...or sound but at least it plays

EDIT: when i turned it down all the way i could barely see the image of the video, but it still kept playing (in the sense that the bar on the bottom kept on moving but it was stuck on the same video frame)

EDIT: err nvm wrong thing i was changing but i tried reducing the hardware acceleration in the desktop properties/settings/advanced/troubleshooting menu and now it works fine with that turned down

alright well i figured out what the problem was...

i did another windows reinstall and decided to go step by step to see what would make the video stopped working and well...it turned out to be my video drivers..apparently nvidias forceware versions 91.13 and 91.33 dont like my video card. so im now i have the one before that 84.xx and my videos are working fine
