Why does somebody make a Melee mod for Half Life so you can use your fists instead the crowbar or just have double crowbars or dual wielding .357s. Or Just have this gun added for sniping it was on 60 minutes last night this gun is legal for Civilians in 49 states.

Now, I normally dont worry about US gun laws too much (I'm in Australia), but I think I have cause now, due to the fact that damn thing can probably hit me from that range :p

If it's single-shot only, then no wonder. It could be classified as a high-power hunting rifle.

That would be understandable, if you were hunting light armor. :|

I had the pleasure of using a Barrett. Trust me, unless your hunting elephants... lol :)

HAHAHAhaaaHHAhahahAHHAha.

Damn, that made me laugh really hard.

anyone seen one in real life

the gun is huge on any normaly sized adult male

ya i've seen on in real life, and it is LONG!

it's a .50 cal sniping rifle used by the military to do things like shoot and armor piercing bullet into the engine block of a armored vehicle to stop it.

I think you'd be left with little more than a fine red mist.

This is why guns scare me.

"your head a splode"

I've seen the bullets for the barret 50 cal in a gun shop once. wow

the bullet is almost as long as your box for hl2 is tall (if it isn't the CE)

The Barett is one of two I know of. The Arma-Lite .50cal is pretty big too. I've been to a few gun shows where they have them displayed. They are about 5feet long. Well here, I'll just post the link.

I've seen the shells this shoots. When you grab them thet are about as wide as a quarter and about 6 inches long, I kid you not. One of my friends in the Air Force said he got to shoot one once. He said the recoil was only about as much as a .243 rifle (a fairly light rifle used for coyotes and maybe deer)because of the massive muzzle brake on the end. It is about half the size of a brick. He was shooting on a deck that was covered in leaves. He said the leaves were blown away in a triangle away form the barrel. He couldn't even stand and hold the gun. The bipod had to be used.

I heard somewhere (I think a Guns & Ammo article) that they are illegal to hunt with in Colorado because people would sit on small mountains and snipe animals a mile away, get in their Jeep and go get the corpse. If anyone is from Colorado knows, feel free to agree or disagree. I may have misunderstood.

Just my two cents worth from a real life gun advocate.

(I want one :D )

looks like somebody fell prey to media scare tactics. I bet there has never been a shooting in the united states that involved that rifle (or any other .50 cal rifle)

More people get killed by .22s and with in 30 feet of thier attackers, and almost always by somebody they know.

The .50 is used in anti sniping and anti material roles. In Desert storm a Marine Sharp shooter recorded a 2 mile kill and it was a tank commander with such a weapon.

as for criminals using it think again its too large and easy to spot. But Hey if you were in Europe and having to deal with the IRA, bosque speratists, and other terrorist gropus running around I might be afraid.

Too easy to spot? not from 2 miles away! lol
Plus, what use is such a weapon for a civilian? it'd be about as useful to them as a TOW missile system.

That's actually legal for civilians? It's made to blow a persons head clean off, how can it be legal?

Actually, it was used by the miltary and is the most-effective breed of snipers in the world. It is even better than the awp in Counter-Strike. Meh! :P

the reason it is legal is because something like 10 years ago america passed some law saying civilians cant have automatic rifles or something, but the ban on them just expired a few months ago i think, angry lawyer care to elaborate?

I'll share my wisdom. The reason it's legal for civilians is that there is no law saying we can't have it. The ban Wraith is talking about is the Clinton Gun Ban that supposedly banned assault rifles. The ban only banned features on a gun, not actual guns. For example, these things were no-nos: flash suppressor, threaded barrels to accept silencers (silencers have been illegal since 1930-something), a pistol grip (like on an AR-15), a forward handgrip, a bayonet lug (who would kill someone with a bayonet?), and a collapsable stock. High capacity magazines (anything over ten) was not to be manufactured, so the only ones you could find would have been "Pre-ban" (made before the ban) and cost a lot. But here's the dumb part. Any rifle that has a detachable magazine could have any two of the following without called an assualt rifle. Say you have a Mini-14,

http://www.cmmginc.com/cmmg_images/tbl_images/Receivers Firearms/Mini 14.jpg

which is perfectly legal. Except now if you put a bayonet lug and flash suppressor on it, now it's an assault rifle and "too dangerous."

Another example. An AR-15 has a pistol grip permanently in the design and accepts a magzine. So you are screwed now. You can only have one trick piece on. What is wrong with a gun that looks cool?

Here's a good picture, except that they are Airsoft. Pretend that they are not for this. The top one is legal. It has a pistol grip and bayonet lug (near the barrel). The bottom would not be beause it has a collapsable stock.

Clinton said that assault rifles are only made to kill people and nothing else. That may be true, but first, a true "assault rifle" is fully automatic, which has been permanently and effectively banned since 1939. His ban did nothing except desensitize people to having their freedoms taken away.

Sorry to rant, but gun control really irritates me, and this subject really gets me going.

Oh, and it did expire. :sniper: :sniper:

so what the criminal holds up a convience store from 2 miles away? how does collect the reward for the crime?

if you look a the basic definition of that weapon it only holds 5 rounds and fires a single shot at a time. Plus it is 5 feet long and weighs A LOT and can bought for around $5k.

Now compare that to the raven. its a .22 that hold up to 9 rounds fires a single shot. But is able to concealed in the palm of somebodys hand and weighs no more that a pound and costs around $100.

but you cant ban an ammo size as thats a violation of our Rights.
