Not sure if anyone has stated this before but I fixed my errors that were occuring in HL2. I am using the 5.7 Cats, I turned off Vsync, I disabled VPU, and disabled Catalyst A.I. I think the main problem was with the VPU and A.I. Vsync should be fine. HL2 now loads up fine and never locks up at all. I can even alt-tab out with ease.
Oh and when VPU is off be sure to have no type of overclocking on, not even the ATI overdrive should be on.
