'The instruction at "0x24172ff6" refrenced memory at "0x00cb8348". The memory could not be "read" '

This is the error that I get every time I go to launch CS:S, the game won't load, the screen goes black and this error comes up. The error seems to have come out of nowhere, after the latest update, I went to play and now this is happening. I have ran memtest to test my physical memory and everything is ok their. I am running the latest 4.10 catalysts (same problem with 4.9's) I have ran norton, defraged, pissed with the refresh rate as per some suggestions on the steam forums and the problem remains. Is anyone else having problems like this? Does anyone have any possible solutions? If not, is their a way I can contact Steam/Valve regarding this issue?

Thanks in advance

PS: My system is as follows

P4 3.2 EE
1024 Corsair XMS
ATI X800 Pro 256meg
2x 76 gig WD Raptor (raid)
Audigy 2 ZS
ABIT IC7-G Mobo

i am having the excact same problem. same error message everything.

my specs:

Don't bother emailing anyone at Valve/Steampowered, they won't help you.

same here

Athlon XP1800+
SB Audigy 2
1024RAM
GF4 Ti4600 128mb
Win XP Pro (no service packs)

Most annoying bug, I have reinstalled my puter and have the latest Nvidia drivers installed. Still no joy :(

RAM has been tested over night with memtest so Im sure PC is ok

Latest Directx is also installed

Wish VALVe would sort this bug or at least acknowledge it :/

I seem to have sorted it out but it involved backing up all the steam apps, reformating, transfering the steam folder back, and not installing sp2. Not only is it working, but its working better. If you do a google search for the error code "c0000135" their are some forum posts that supposedly have working fixes but it involves some pretty complex stuff. Good luck.

Getting that error too, I incresed Virtuall Memory and that helped a tad, but I still get booted wayy to often.

Useful link, I keep forgetting to check that forum for info on fixing things. Should spend more time playing with it if I've got it too tbh.

Now just need them to help fix it. It happens to far too many people for it to be a memory problem :D

Same here. Lotsa of crashing after playing for a long time.

I was getting this error after a clear format, using nvidia 67.02 drivers.... what I hadn't realised was that when I installed the Hyperion 4 in 1 453 drivers I installed the AGP one also, which is known to have issues with XP SP2 .... I rolled back the AGP driver under system devices in the Dev Manager, and what do ya know ..... no crashing! Infact, I was playing game stable on the machine without getting this error once, only has it after installing the 4 in 1 drivers following a format! Food for thought, anyone with a Via chipset on their mobo give it a try!
