Hi all.

I've just bought an additional 512mb PC2700 memory, to suplement the already 512mb I had in my PC (total 1024) and I've been having some VERY wierd problems.

I have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard (other PC specs in my sig), that allows users to run memory in DUAL MEMORY MODE and when I put the new dim in the PC (even though the modules werent the same brand) the PC did boot into dual memory mode.

First time round, after about two minutes, with no warning whatsoever the PC just re-booted and wouldn't boot back up again (till I took the new memory module out).

I then took the new DIMM out and moved it to slot A2 (it was in B1 originally with A1 used by my old DIMM) and the memory lasted probably five minutes this time (instead of 2) and did the same thing (i.e. rebooting and when starting up acting like there was no memory in either slot whatsoever).

Now I've fiddled about with this memory and it seems to be working in dual mode (and registering as 1024mb without the PC hanging), but when using memory / cpu intensive apps (I can't say for certain becasuse I didn't witness it the PC seems to just crash after a couple of hours), i.e. CTRL & ALT & DEL doesn't work, neither does the mouse.

Now I'm downloading 3DMark03 to stress test the system, at the reccomendations of a friend, but is there any application anyone here can think of to test memory specifically, to find specific problems?

Cheers

Its a little program to make sure your memory is okay.

yeah, I found that. It's linux only though, no?

There is a windows version there.

GAH, it's an app that needs a floppy to run in DOS mode (and I don't have an FDD drive).

My problem is a wierd one to say the least. I've been sat here using the PC for the last 2 hours and it's been fine.

I ran 3d mark, which finished fine, no crashes.

I opened 50 iterations of IE, which opened fine abeit slowly towards 47 IE's.

I opened every application on my PC simultaneously and they all opened okay.

But weith both IE, and the APP opens in each case there was about 300mb of memory left to be filled (so not exactly a stress test of the memory to say the least).

ARGH!.
