Memory/Ram Question

I know jack squat about ram when it comes to Mhz speed and such. All i know is the basic "256, 512, 768, gig, etc" sizes. Best Buy is looking to employ me AND I'm looking to buy a gig.

I need a simple explanation along with finding out what type of ram i need to buy for my comp.

I have a DELL XPS 700, if that's help.

Crucial.com and PNY.com are some good sites to go to for looking up memory compatibility for certain PC models.

Crucial says you have 4 slots and it uses DDR2 memory.
Match the speed of the sticks which are already in your PC (sticker on them says). Your PC is compatible with PC2-4200 (533) , PC2-5300 (667) and PC2-6400 (800).
Those are the bandwidth ratings and in parentheses are the MHz rating.
