Well, what's you guys think about it? Felt exactly the same as the first one tbh, except that it's in Venuzuela and has lots of bugs. Nothing really stands out though other than the ability to blow everything to hell, which the first one does just fine.

Pandemic really could've done more to improve the series, and the whole game is generally unpolished, (physics, gunplay, etc.) but I still had lots of fun with it.

For starters, the abilitly to recruit a ton of mercenaries and pilots to build up your own personal army would've been awesome. Especially if the AI was worth a damn.
Lots of vehicles in the game such as warships which really can't be manned efficiently without any gunners really sucks and seeing that the online isn't doing so well, it doesn't look like there'll probably be many folks online to help man the turrets. So, what's the final verdict around here?

i downloaded the demo to find out exactly what all the fuss was about....
probably played it for about 10 minutes and then deleted it

another mediocre game in my books

the only thing i could see being even remotely fun about the game is co-op

Some other forums are comparing it to GTA IV. I assume you've played GTA IV before right? What's your thoughts on that?

The only comparison between Mercs 2 and GTA4 is that they're in the same genre. Mercs is an all-around horribly designed and executed game.

To be fair though, the idea was good. If this game hadn't been so rushed, there could've been so much potential. Someone on gamefaqs said:

GTA IV: All polish, no fun

Both games have their pros and cons, but Merc 2 admittedly has more cons imo. Fans of the first mercs are likely appreciate the game more though.

GTAIV managed to be both incredibly polished and fun. It's one of my favorite games. It was a ballsy move by Rockstar to make a more somber, realistic game ... and a lot of people definitely didn't like it ... but it was ****ing perfect for me. Great game.

Mercenaries 2 is just crap. It's generic and shitty. It feels just like the first one but with better graphics and glitchier gameplay. To say it's "all fun" is just wrong, it's full of annoyances and contrivances and it just isn't put together all that well. I had more fun just driving down the road listening to the radio in GTAIV than in this whole game (and you know ... robbing banks, stealing cars, getting into gunfights that were actually fun, etc.).

When compared to the original Mercs this game is shit. However it is still fun to blow shit up and doing so with a friend in coop can be quite fun at times.

haven't played it yet and don't intend to but i do liek the advert for it.

What the hell are you talking about, GTA4 was loads of fun.

GTA IV: All polish, all fun

Mercs 2: No polish, sort of fun

That wasn't my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed both games, and the only reason why I probably enjoyed Mercs 2 so much was because I liked the first one. Plus, leveling an entire city with air nukes never gets old for me.

If mercs 2 had GTA IV's physics, gunplay, the Deck of 52 intel system from Mercs 1, and better than average graphics, I could probably say I like Mercs 2 better.

As much as I liked GTA IV, I liked it better when it had the max military wanted level, minigun, tanks and apaches. Plus the lack of the "kingpin/multi-million overlord of the gangster underworld" approach that was in VC and San Andreas kind of turned me off. Futhermore, you can't even fire a gun without getting a single star, which really got on my nerves tbh.

I draw the line when games become too aggravatingly realistic. I still enjoyed GTA IV to no end though.

You people are retarded for GTA4, it was good, not amazing.. Plenty of games done it before.

As for Mercs 2, I never played the first, and I think the second is a good game, worth a buy in my books.

"Plenty"? Apart from maybe The Getaway ... I can't think of any game that offers anything close to the tone or style of GTAIV in that genre. And I can't think of any game in the genre that is close to its level of quality. What are these game that you speak of?

I realize most people on this forum are game snobs. A game doesn't have to have everything perfect to be fun, it can do everything shitty and have one thing done 100% and it could be a better game then a game that does everything 75%, depending on what thing it does right. If a game is fun, it's fun, it doesn't have to meet ****ing requirements to be enjoyable you retards. I find more and more of you thinking like these game fags more and more every day.

You blow shit up, and it doesn't freeze, what the **** do you want?

EDIT @ smwScott - All the GTA games before 4, Scarface, Driver, Getaway, Saint's Row (which I find better then GTA4, more to do, I'll buy #2, I still gotta check when it comes out), Crackdown.. Just off the top of my head, I know there are loads more. Atleast in San Andreas there was a little more to do, GTA4 there is no customization of anything, it's like it went backwards back to Vice City (except Vice City was way better then all GTA games put together).

Honestly, your opinion is the only one I ever wanted. From what I can tell we both like games for the same reasons.

Mah niggas.

Mercs 2 is just...boring

Airstrikes should be easier to get, weapons should be more interesting, and the vehicles all drive like they're on ice.

I thought it was quite a bit of fun. Blowing up stuff never got boring in the story. Was glad I rented it though. Probably wouldn't play it a ton more.

I'm not going to debate whether all those games you mentioned are better or worse than GTAIV (though Saints Row ... really dude? That's just San Andreas + Stupid) because that's purely down to taste, but I will say that GTAIV fulfills a niche that none of those other games do - even earlier GTA games.

It maintains a dark, realistic, somber tone while at the same time providing excellent humor (of both the low and high brow varieties). The polish and excellence in the city, controls, combat, driving, writing, and atmosphere is absolutely unparalleled. The thing that GTAIV excels in that no other game comes close to is its utter and complete devotion to player immersion. The reason that I countered your claim was that you said that plenty of other games had done this before ... whereas I don't believe that's true, at least not in this genre. Those other games you mentioned, by anyone's definition, are markedly different from GTAIV.

And for the record, I don't think you have to be a snob to believe that nuking a dude or running around in your boxers makes up for bad game design, though in an otherwise solid game such features could have their place...

I'm having a fun-ass time with just the demo. I'll pop back when I get the full game too.

I've played it. I wouldn't say it "sucked arse" but it certainly is a disappointment compared to the original game. I mainly blame EA for this, since the game is clearly unpolished and would have benefited from a delay in my opinion. Oh well, there's still Saints Row 2 and the PC version of GTA 4 to look forward to.

I found the game fun, but the coop lacking... sure it's fun blowing up buildings with the nuclear bunker buster or doing stunts, but that gets old really quick. I think Pandemic should have thrown some sort of deathmatch atleast, and they could have eliminated the whole buddy leash thing - you being apart from your buddy is very limited through distance.

I had an achievement issue where I earned maximum mood for the AN and I didn't get rewarded an achievement. I waited for the update and the latest one didn't remedy anything. After searching though I found a method that works for some people including myself where I had to clear my xbox cache, load up the game and deny the update when prompted. I did so and as the game was loading, voila! "Achievement unlocked" "Stand up and Shout"

You people are retarded for GTA4, it was good, not amazing.. Plenty of games done it before.

I think that GTA4 is vastly overrated and overhyped, but I don't like that kind of games at all so this is a personal opinion.

Yay, this will finally determine if I get it.

Is it possible to play co-op splitscreen?
No, you need to play over the internet via EA Link or something.

Really? That would make me mad if I had the PC version because that's my resolution. It bugs me to play on anything else.

Same. That was the first thing that pissed me off about the game. The second thing was the lack of AA. The third was the controls.

It just went downhill from there.

The demo doesn't run for me. Damn it. ._.

God, I've f*cking had it with these games that won't start at all... I'm upgrading this shit.

edit: I can run games like Crysis, but not a graphically inferior game like Mercs2? What sort of logic is that?

Crysis' graphics aren't that great either tbh. Even on a competent system.

...It had to be said. :|

Futhermore, it's gameplay isn't even all that "OMG! WTF! THIS IS AWESOME!". Crysis is a pretty mediocre title either way you slice it and is way too overrated.

I had more fun with Mercs 2. Though many say the same things about it.
It's all a matter of personal taste I guess.

Uh... saying Crysis' graphics aren't that great is basically like lying to yourself.
Your personal disdain for the game is effecting your ability to give it credit for looking gorgeous.

It was fun... for a bit.

Basically my experience of it (over the course of a one night rental) was such:

Crysis' graphics are MEDIOCRE! "Me-dee-oh-cree"! I've seen PS1 and Dreamcast games that were more realistic.

EDIT> My eyeballs are only the SD 480p models. Completely incapable of viewing better graphics. So I guess it's not entirely Crysis' fault it's graphics look bad to me.

BTW, my cousin removed the Xbox 360 from my domicile and I can no longer play Mercs 2 or Mass Effect anymore. Dammit, and I was so close to beating Mercs 2. :(
