ok guys..anybody knows alternatives to nightwish. or even better yet...an equivalent of iron maiden with female voice.

most bands i've tried sound like pussy...no shit eh?!

i want lots of guitar, solos and riffs. no crappy emo three power chord songs.

oh and this song would rock so much if only i could turn off that sound that sounds like some guy taking a huge dump and yelling trough a broken microphone.

My mate like Lacuna Coil a lot, metal band with female vocalist.

Kittie, Otep, Jack Off Jill, Flyleaf, Within Tempation and Lacuna Coil are the only female metal bands I know of.
You could probably throw Evanescence up there too, but like Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation... not really that metal.

But yeah, I love the sound of a woman doing the metal growls and screams.

edit : Oh here, just found a list on last.fm.

Lacuna Coil is equal parts male and female. Some of it is good, but nowhere near the best male bands.

Does anyone know any other female leads in metal?

I prefer female vocals for Trance but it just doesn't sound right to me in metal. Let us know if you find one that you think is really good. thanks

I can't take female vocals in metal seriously. The same level of rage can't be delivered by women, and when they try all I think is "Jeez, calm the hell down..."

Bang on. I don't listen to much metal these days, but I could never see the appeal in Lacuna Coil or Arch Enemy.

The chick from Made Out of Babies can sing, though, but they aren't really all that metal. Well, no, they are, but not in the same league as LC and AC. It isn't generic metal, basically.

The Distillers is the closest thing I can think of that I actually enjoy (though they are more punk), all the rest like Lacuna Coil and Kittie I dislike for the most part (Kittie has like, one good song) Lacuna Coil basically sounds like Evenescence.

Other way around, LC was around long before Evanescence.

i've looked some of those bands you mentioned, but they just aren't metal i'd like to hear.

i'd like clear female voice not some thrash screaming. but there need to be guitars involved.

Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden doesn't have a really heavy voice or something, but he sings really good.

i really like Annete from nightwish, but the band doesn't do the good old metal it's supposed to.

hey...dark moor is is not that bad

listen

just check out Judas Priest. It's a guy, but,,.. close enough. You'll see what I mean if you listen to it

Night Crawler is awesome
Breaking the Law has good lyrics
Painkiller - sounds like a girl almost

"Between the Hammer and the Anvil" has some really good parts too

"You don't have to be old to be wise" is good

look man i understand and respect your...err...kind, but i'm not really into those man to man things, your private life is none of my business

lol...just kidding :naughty:

yeah Judas Priest rocks, but i'd really like some pussy :P

There's a band called The Iron Maidens that plays... well, yeah. Iron Maiden covers. They're a gimmick band but you might enjoy their takes on Maiden's classics. There's a few gothic metal bands like Tristania that employ female vocals but they tend to use growled/screamed vocals as well. Then there's Arch Enemy, who have a female vocalist (she does harsh vocals), but the band themselves really aren't worth much. Hammers of Misfortune have a female vocalist who adds quite a bit to their sound, though you might find their male vocalist to be a little strange for metal standards. Amaran was a power metal band with a female vocalist, though I haven't heard them.

Honestly, though, there isn't too much in the way of good metal bands featuring clean female vocalists, at least that I've heard of. Female vocals show up plenty of times in backing roles, but never in the forefront except in rare cases like Nightwish and Lacuna Coil (who both blow, hard). You might be better off looking into other types of music if you want your fix of the fair sex. For some reason, women are fairly stupid on the whole and don't seem to like good music.

that's awesome, thanks man

never heard of the iron maidens, to bad they don't have some original songs

somewhat refreshing to see this

don't say some of the guitarists don't look hot...lol

i'm totally impressed!

Whilst I'm here, actually, I'll recommend Battle of Mice who I haven't really listened to that much but it's the same girl from Made Out of Babies, who apart from the Red Sparowes connection, I'm not THAT fond of, but these aren't bad. It's a lot softer than most, but it's lumped within the post-metal/post-rock genre so it's all very long, drawn out soundscape stuff with a lot of layers and textures. It's all very thought out and well made music, really, and her vocals are damned good, I just need to listen to them some more.

Have a listen to the album A Day of Nights

Dear God, at first I was like "Hey this isn't too bad." then she starts singing and I'm like "What the ****, is she a ****ing toad?"

God, I hate metal like that.

that was exactly my first reaction too

Meh, more or less sounds like she's just reading poetry to music.
She does have an interesting voice though, sounds almost childlike.

Check out a few songs by Teardown, and see if that doesn't fit the description

Listening to

Teardown - Where are you now?

from the album Cold Rooms -2006

it's good stuff

anyway, there is more than one Teardown. One has a male vocalist. that's not it.

...it seems to me like they're trying to be weird as hell just for the sake of it.

Well they are all a bit nuts... I'm really not sure how much, if any, is for show.

There's really nothing musically rewarding about listening to them.

Well yeah, but then again, I feel that way about the whole genre anyways.

EDIT: I'm reading the reviews on encylopadia metallum and ... ...

...

well, I'm glad it's not just me...
