I beat Portable Ops on Normal (fantastic story/game, btw), so I have now unlocked "Extreme" difficulty, and I have a few questions..

1. How much harder are the bosses, The hard bosses (Gene, and Cunningham) took me about 5-7 tries on normal (Cunningham took me about 4), how much harder is it on Extreme?

2. I wanted to play through the game again without any alerts, mostly using Snake for everything, is it harder on Extreme to do this?

3. Based on answers for #'s 1 and 2, should I replay my way on Normal, or just go for Extreme?

Amazing Game, and if you are Metal Gear Fan, its a must, since the story is canon.
Did you get the Stealth Suit? This will make things easier and it will help you if you want to play mostly with Snake, also if you got all the unlockable characters put them in their respective specialties (Sokolov and Sigingt in Tech unit, Para-medic in medic unit, etc). and When it comes to the Bosses, yes, they are harder but no impossible. Good Luck!

I wish I had the money for a PSP so I could play this game.:\

Here I come to crash this thread but oh well. :o I still have not beaten the game. In fact I refuse to turn on the game because I get so pissed off at it. If you hit anybody, an enemy nearby (even though there is nobody around you) will call in support. Sometimes if I really kick the crap out of the guy and while getting stable he will start to call in. Then you are frantically kicking in the air while the hitboxes arn't registering...GAH IT"S SO DAMN FRUSTRATING! I'm actually considering Enter The Matrix more fun than this game. When I get lucky and recruit a sgt, he will still be detected. I bet if I unlocked a cheat code and had their rebel leader they would call me an enemey. It's so damn hard that it has gotten to the point that as soon as I get caught, I just turn off the game before smashing my PSP. I have it on normal btw. I'm kinda used to stealth games but even Splinter Cell was easier and more fun than this.

@rAdIOhEaD, It was my first playthrough of the game on normal, so I didn't unlock any special characters. I'm on my 2nd playthrough, and I refuse to use cheats!

@Gargantou, It's controls are really awkward at first, but you get the hang of it after about 30-40 minutes of playing, buy a PSP, the game is awesome.

@hool10, I have no god damn clue what the hell your talking about... To knock out a guy you have to make sure he never gets up, if he gets up for 1 second then you've got an alert on your hands, sometimes you'll still have an alert while kicking his ass, but finish knocking the guy out, and once he's kocked out the alert will go away.. And for some reason (I thought the only problem with the game) is that rank does not matter, it matters about the clothes your guy is wearing, if everyone is dressed like a MALE officer, then use the MALE officer, not the female officer, not some random solder, you must use a MALE officer, if there are different types of people on the level (like regular solders, and officers), and you dressed like an officer, make sure the regular solders don't see you. The blue chameleon icon has to be in the upper left corner, also. And about this "hitbox" buisness, the guy is probably out of your PUNCHING range while he's getting up, finish the combo so you kick him, then he'll fall straight back onto the floor.

Most of the special characters can be unlocked on your first playthrough, and I never said that you should use cheats, on the contrary, the stealth suit is given to you by your tech unit if you take them to level 99, and that item is a good asset that will help you on hard difficulty, it's optional thou, you don't have to use it, but still you should get the special characters by completing the differents side missions...

Once the first punch lands that little alert thing comes up. It takes only 1.5 seconds for the enemy to call in support even though nobody is in the area. I never thought I sucked at games but this game takes the cake. Don't even get me started on how to recruit one of those doctor's either. It's almost like Indiana Jones trying to run outta of the place but ass slow. JUST SLING THE BODY OVER YOUR BACK AND RUN FOR CHRIST SAKE! FOREST GUMP DID IN VIETNAM!!! :| *Well I followed some of your tips, and they are working out. I can play the game now not getting caught. The game is getting fun.

I don't know about your first punch landing an alert.. Maybe someone else sees you punching or something? That doesn't happen to me.. Other guard may be HEARING you, like if you start a fight behind some crates, and a guard is on the other side of the creates, he'll call it in, because he probably hears you. Try getting a lone guy (who's far away from everyone else, any guard at the prison works), and see if it still does the alert thing.

And I do agree with you on the doctors, the only camoflauge against them is another doctor, so you've gotta knock one out from behind or preferably use your tanquilizer pistol on them so they dont see you, they are really hard to get, but well worth it.

My favorite place to recruit doctors is the research lab (I think thats the place), once you get up to the top, immediatly lay down, because a doctor is in range (you can see the doctor, and only the doctor), shoot him with your tranquilizer pistol, and make sure he's knocked out, dont run over to him though, there is a guard patrolling between some buildings, the first alleyway on your right, kill/knock him out, then just drag the doctor to your truck.

I don't know if you know, but use rescuers to capture people, they drag a hell of a lot faster, saves alot of time.

Also, when your trying to kick a guy when he's down, make sure he's a little bit up before you kick him, you can't kick him while he's still laying face down on the floor.
