Metal Gear Solid Review

I don't know what I'm more disappointed by, the fact it got a 4.5, or myself for ever believing it could be the game of my dreams...

And this is coming from the same site who gave Halo 3 a score of 9.5, so I have a bit of a hard time taking MGS4s 9.9 score seriously.

No seriously though it sucks that they didn't even bother posting a video review :flame:.

True, but in the end, the only opinion that really matters is your own. Nevertheless, it's still a bit impressive but it's not surprising to see all the high scores since this is the MGS series we're talking about.

I'll wait for a playthrough to appear on YouTube.

Where the **** do you see a 4.5 and any bad reviews are just to prevent it from selling! Being payed of by Microsoft.!!! I refuse to take any review below a 9 seriously.

I could care less for reviews about this game. Im buying 2 copies no matter what scores it gets.

The UK Reviews never have videos. Only the official IGN ones do. That will probably be released a day or 2 around launch.

Well ... not surprising. There was no way this game wasn't going to be great :p .

Reassuring non the less. Can't wait for it to release.

Aye, it's clearly worth more for the meta game alone ;)

You gotta be shitting me, no-one is this stupid..

There was no way this game wasn't going to be great :p
Ofcourse there was no way this game wasn't going to be great in the eyes of a PS3 fanboy!:rolling:

ditto. Im actually looking forward to the playthrough of mgs 4 from this guy:

http://youtube.com/user/alexfung23

He has all of the original walkthroughs of 1, 2, and 3.
Who cares about his MGS videos!? What's great is his video playthroughs of games that are Japanese exclusive, like the SD Gundam G Generation collection he has.:)

I've been a huge fan of this guy for ages, even talked to him on several occasions, he's helped me a bit with some of my japanese language games.

9.9%? What did 12 year olds review it or something. I wouldnt even give Half-Life 2 a score like that. Retarded is what that is.

O____o

Anyway good news. But I'm thinking two things:

1) they didn't give it a perfect 10 just because it would seem rich in the space of a couple of weeks of another game getting a perfect 10

2) I haven't played it yet but wow 9.9 sounds a tad bit well high even for a metal gear game O_O

then what would be the point of a 10 point scale?

10 is a perfect game, and yes I do believe 'realistic' perfection is possible in a game.

While I've never done that myself, I just can't see how this won't absolutely ruin the game for you.

I've never played an MGS game apart from the original Metal Gear Solid. I read a synopsis of MGS2 and MGS3 and watched a six-hour playthrough (all gameplay elements excised) of MGS2. The gameplay in the MGS series is "meh" for me.

Totally. I can think of various games over the years that have been worth 10/10.

Why do people get mad when a game gets a really good score? Can't you just understand some games are just really ****ing good?

If mgs4 stays on ps3 I will continue to slate it to the best of my ability!

*waits for inevitable fanboy flame war*

I'll just wait until it actually comes out to make my decision, tbh.

Wow, the entire review in the comment section or as far as ive read has been a fanboy ps3/xbox360 debate along with a game debate...

 This is to classic. I bet at least half of that site only uses their comps to post in forums/read reviews and has never even played a game on pc!

You're like a professional troll. You treat being a douchebag like it's your ****ing job :p . You spend your time scouring an internet forum looking for opportunities to make snarky comments at other peoples expense ... I guess to make you feel better about yourself. I dunno ... it's amusing, annoying, and pathetic all at the same time.

On a more relevant note I just saw another review, Eurogamer gave it an 8/10. They liked it but complained primarily about the overlong cutscenes and general pretentiousness, particularly with the ending. Doesn't surprise me as that's always been a problem ... but they said the game itself was amazing, which is what I primarily care about. Can't wait.

He's Swedish. They always have sand in their vaginas, even if they're men.

In twelve installments on Youtube. Took me three days of on/off viewing.

It's sad how much of MGS2 is made up of pointless cutscenes and dicking around.

Well thank God for that.

I played MGS2 only once. I was pretty disappointed. My love of the series was revived with Twin Snakes. I was still dismayed by 2 however, and I went back to other games for a long time. Then MGS3 (I only ever played the Subsistence version with the improved camera mode) astounded me and felt like playing MGS for the first time. In my opinion it was the best yet. Up there with my favourite games ever.

Aww I love you too honeybunny, let's make babies.;)

Anyway, if I'm gonna be serious again, there's no doubt in my mind MGS is/will be an awesome game for people who like the MGS formula.:)

Edge say 8/10 - citing it as a game for MGS fans first and foremost. There's the odd niggle about some questionable design, and the cutscnes are massive - big surprise - but it all sounds good. Lost Winds also got 8/10 and Haze 5/10 XD

Haze is a 5/10 game so I'd consider their scores fairly decent.:)

I don't quite understand how MGS4 is rated as on-par with Lost Winds. I know I'm biased towards MGS since it is one of my favorite videogame series, but damn, I just don't see how I'm getting the same experience from Lost Winds as with MGS4. Of course, maybe Lost Winds really is that good, I don't know, I'll have to try it out.

Granted, this happens all the time (e.g. Sports franchises) and it's unfair to pick on Lost Winds as it does seem a genuinely creative and fun game. But still...

Anyone who doesn't fall in love with Lost Winds is a soulless-demon-Nazi.

Aye - Lost Winds has been the surprise highlight of this gen for me. So short - it's only part 1 - but so lovely. Every time I complete it - 3 times so far - the controls make more sense and the process of guiding Toku through the air becomes more fluid and graceful. It's immensely satisfying and one of those rare games that I find captivating simply in playing - like the beginning of Mario 64, where the joy was in running and jumping and discovering an extra dimension. It reminds me of playing Ico for the first time, the better bits of Galaxy, and loop de looping in NiGHTS. I really can't praise Lost Winds enough.

MGS4 looks great, but I very much doubt we'll see anything that hasn't been seen many times before. Perhaps some bits will be done better, and some old ideas given a new twist, but it's going to be MGS with a new coat of paint - everyone knows it. Without inteding to turn this into a vs. argument, Lost Winds is the polar opposite.

Still, i'm counting the days for MGS4 \o/
