Here is where you'll find everything you REALLY need to know.

MGS is a good series, but I felt there was too much storytelling and not enough gameplay even for my taste.
What I did like about it was the little extras and attention to detail. A good example is when I was in the process of fighting the old sniper in MGS3, I saved my game and forgot about it for a few weeks. When I turned the console back on I was presented with a cutscene showing me that he died while waiting for me to fight him. That's class.

you didnt played right? so why you say that

btw metal gear solid games are one of the best game ever

also if you dont plan to buy or play a metal gear solid game just cuz is a japanese game then you are a racist idiot (I hav see people in forums saying that dont try metal gear cuz is a japanese game)

who said you have to? MGS1 is abandonware- you can get it off http://www.the-underdogs.org/ legally and for free. :)
There is nothing legal about Abandonware, ESPECIALLY MGS1. How can MGS1 be abandonware when there's a surviving commerical alternative to the game? Namely the Gamecube remake? The Underdogs can in no way justify the release of that game when it potentially undermines the success of an existing product.

Edit: More to the point, f**k MGS. Go get the System Shock games.

I thought MGS sucked. Hardcore. But then again i played the Twin Snakes version 6 years after the original was released.

The original MGS blew me away. I must have spent weeks completing it over and over :) The sequals were not so great.

As for the story, it's just your standard, crazy anime plot with twists. I can't remember the details, but who cares when the game was that fun :)

The stories were much more than that.

anime plot twist?lol I never consider MGS to hav a anime plot twist

I did - the whole game felt like an interactive anime to me (which is a good thing)

A silly, over the top, plot is not always a bad thing :)

it was awesome when you died

snake? snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!

You should have shot meryl dead, or when you went in to the vent for the first time, go back three times, so you could see her in her panty's

I'm not sure if this is an insult to MGS... or to Anime :p

yeah I hope the next MGS to hav that back

No amount of explaination could ever explain the MGS storyline. I don't even think Konami has it figured out, either.

Thats total BS, did any of you try to go to junkerhq or metalgearsoldi.org, the story of mgs2 is nicly explained there.

I figured it out perfectly even without those sites, but JunkerHQ is very good in that it gives you details not IN the game, like where Konami got their ideas from etc, and even further explains Meme etc(In a QUICK way).

Albeit I do admit I played through MGS2 like 3 times, the third time I didn't skip a single convo etc.

I love all the MGS games, they far suprior to the Splinter Cell ones.

If you play MGS2 2-3 times (and have an IQ over 120) its easy to figure out what's going on.

Sure it is. Doesn't stop it from being ridiculous, overblown and just plain stupid.

Now 1 and 3 are far, far less silly.

To me it's brilliant, very dared, original, and lifts media(games, television....) to a new level.

I have MGS3.. played it for a while but hated it. It was just stupid, imo. It's on my shelf gathering dust right now, I'll probably never touch it again. And why do people insist on comparing MGS to SC? Sure, they're both stealth games but they're not that similar

Anyone else think the first game is ridiculously pretentious and contradicting?

The only thing it contradicts are the original Metal Gears which are no longer really canon in the MGS universe anymore.

Pretentious? Uh no, I didn't. You know what pretentious means right? I don't think Kojima was trying to say "This is the greatest action title ever created."

I dont understand why so many people dont like the storylines of the MGS games, the stroylines and cutscenes are better developed that any other game so far
or maybe that person just want to go to kill enemys?

SC is a better stealth game, but it is newer, it only makes sense.

MGS is still awesome though, the storyline, everything about it.
The coolest part is using a box to sneak around, plain awesome.

No, not really.

The problem with MGS2's plot isn't that it's too complex or convoluted. I understood it the first time around. It's just that it's such a ridiculous mess. Granted, I was intrigued by the social commentary and concepts that it provided in the last few bits, but I would prefer them to be standalone. As a whole, MGS2's plot was a whole lot of pretentious, unnecessary, over-the-top wank that could have desparately used some trimming, cutting, and simplification. And forcing me to play as Raiden was the ultimate insult.

I honestly think Hideo needs to become familiar with the word "brevity" as well. There was so much superfluous dialogue and cutscenes that I swear I spent more time watching the game rather than playing it.
