MGS4 = June 12 w/ new 80 GB bundle

Word from Destination PlayStation, a retailers-only conference for all things PlayStation related, is that Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming to the PlayStation 3 on June 12, 2008. According to sources there now, the release of Kojima Productions action-stealth game will arrive on a Thursday, oddly enough. Even more interesting is that we're hearing word that Sony will be offering a hardware bundle that features MGS4, an 80GB PlayStation 3 and a DualShock 3 packed-in.

Not quite an official press release, but we should probably hear more about this today.

If the bundle is true, that is probably what I'll get if I get a job this summer. I was waiting for one that had DS3 standard (**** SixAxis), and it does along with MGS4 which is sweet.

Though, if by the time summer comes along, I hear of a similar bundle but with LBP, well, then **** MGS4

Also, for those who don't have DS3, it will release in the States on April 15 @ $55

Yeah, since I already have a BC 60GB PS3, I am not getting this bundle. I will, of course, get the new DS when it releases and MGS4 when it releases. This is a seriously great motivation for those waiting for a reason to get a PS3 though. :thumbs:

Nobody knows if it's even real, but one could imagine $500. (DS3 and MGS4 = bumps price back up).

Better than nothing certainly, and many of the previous BC problems have been fixed in firmware updates anyway.

Also:

Metal Gear Solid 4 will launch on PS3 later this year. In addition, players will be able to enjoy a Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack." Online features support for up to 16 players using "the latest weapons and stealth techniques."

Konami will introduce a pre-order campaign through a nationwide pre-sell promotion will enable gamers to pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test. The beta would occur in late April.

Id get a PS3 JUST for MGS4, it looks absolutely awesome. Saw a 20-odd minute video on stage6 and was just blown away about how its evolved, the way it looks, yet still maintains that unique MGS style.

Ill wait for the 360 though...PS3's are just stupidly expensive.

It will cost $500 and is exactly the same as the current 80 GB system out there (in terms of BC and ports).

I really wish that they would have a LBP bundle though! That would be 10x better since I'm looking forward to that more than MGS4. But for the same price I get MGS4 and a DS3, so I won't complain certainly.

Actually, everyone should just note that the June 12th was NOT confirmed by Sony (yet). They are still listing it as late Q2 2008.

However, everyone is saying June 12th and it sounds reliable.

Also, since this is all about Sony, they are redoing the PS Store to make it better (when I used it on my friends PS3 it SUCKED). They are apparently making it more like the Sing Star store. That is going live April 15.

Yes.

It's the SixAxis with rumble support (which Sony said was "impossible" which was clearly bullshit) and also with improved connectivity where the controller doesn't drop anymore (which some SixAxis do unfortunately).

Same as the 80GB does. It's done via software IIRC.

Even for PS2 games? I missed out on a lot of good games for the PS2 and have some catching up to do.

80GB has some problem with running BC. for example, there are known problems with running kingdom hearts games on 80GB. the game would freeze, framerate looks worst on PS3, and the game shows really dark, barely noticeable. Some ps2 titles might not even work on 80GB.

It's just that 80GB has notorious problem with running PS2 games, but not PS1.
