The best-selling author Michael Crichton has died aged 66 after a "courageous and private battle against cancer", his family has said.

He penned Jurassic Park, as well as books like Congo and Twister, all of which were adapted into films.

His books have sold more than 150 million copies. He also created the long-running US hospital drama ER.

"He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched," his family said in a statement.

A private funeral service is expected.

Crichton is survived by wife Sherri and daughter Taylor.

Damn it. Now I feel terrible. He influenced me a lot when I was a child with Jurrasic Park, it was a big part of my childhood and I loved his books and movies.
By very strange coincidence I watched a Youtube videos with him yesterday and wondered what next book he will make.
I will miss him.

Damn. I must have seen Jurassic Park like... 10 times the year it came out. Dinosaur freak and all. Oh well. =/

Heard about it this morning, was a pretty big shock to me :(. Jurassic Park was and is still one of my favorite books ever.

I'm saddened =(

Jurassic park was like the first big book i read. I was about 12 when i read the whole thing.

He was a great author and intellect... probably the best at prepping a novel via research, before writing it.

Another great author gone.

Quite sad.

I enjoyed his books a lot, even if he did confuse me a bit by turning into a very vocal Global-Warming-Isn't-Manmade proponent by the time of State of Fear. Will be missed.

He'll be writing books about venture capitalism gone wrong in heaven.

:L
