Microsoft Photosynth: 3d your photos

Ah yes, I remember this. It works exactly like that guy said. :O

Microsoft are really setting their sights on Google, rapidly adopting new web gadgets. They've just put the SkyDrive beta live too (previously aka windows live folders). Handy.

I refuse to install an .exe when I can take two photos of the same pair of tits from slightly different angles and look at them cross-eyed to get the full 3D experience.

I think this is mad ****ing cool. So you can build a 3D model from photos?

I'm not sure if you can free roam the camera when it's finished, Venice is taking a long time. But that would be very useful application. You could build a 3D model of a the inside of a kitchen or home.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

All this does is make a 3d-ish panorama type deal.

Lame, I want my 3d models generated from photos, not just photos arranged into a panorama.

It must be possible, you can see all the verticies generated in 3-D space, so it would only need to be skinned...

It's been two years! We must have the technology!

I hate you. lepobz, angry lawyer....I really thought they came back.

;(

Woah wtf.

How did I not notice the thread bumpage...

The name Photosynth made me think of some kind of synthesiser-camera that took pictures and made music with them. Damn.

Major disappointment all around. Now to get rid of silverlight. Every time I start my internet browser, I have to load this dead weight? idk

One click disable. <3 FF

If they're verticies. They might just be data points. Either way though, you'd have to actually have some way to append actual geometry between all the verts, and then UV map them, and then texture it. Which is about 60% of the entire process of making 3D textured models, and UVing it is by far the worst part of it. I'd rather do it by hand tbh :/

What do you mean by data points? Isnt that just the x,y,z coordinates of the point?

Also, I wasnt thinking about it being real fancy with texturing and UV mapping (by this I'm assuming you mean geometrically unwrapping the object to creating a flat image), simply creating mesh triangles between the points.
