The Xbox 360 college tour started today at my campus right across a 9/11 blood drive. With girls in skimpy clothes and free shirts not supporting the blood drive but, the xbox 360 and mountain dew. Who starts anything fun on 9/11? I wrote a open letter to the Xbox 360 team on how crappy they are for doing this on my blog and I'm sending the same words to the opinion section of my college newspaper. I would be really grateful if you showed this letter on your site or at least told they many fans like myself ofKotaku how dumb the Xbox 360 Marketing team is

that would be awesome! and certainly worth a laugh

in your face jebus! <gay guy shakes leather clad ass>

I echo Stern's sentiments. Although Jesus would be "Hell yeah! Love thy neighbour IN THE ASS!"

Seriously, it was 5 years agow now. Get over it. Life goes on.

If we blocked out dates for events based simply on the fact something awful happened in the past... I don't think we'd have any days free to celebrate anything.

Oh no. How can anything possibly happen on the same day as the anniversary of a tragedy.

Seriously, it's because of the media we are never aloud to forget these things. And don't think I'm being insensitive, I knew a couple of people who died in the 9/11 attacks
I just think it's ridiculous how uptight people get about this.

yes because december 7th hasnt survived for over 60 years as the day pearl harbour was attacked, because december 8th wont be forever remembered as the day john lennon was shot, august 6th and 9th wont be remembered as the day(s) nuclear fire razed hiroshima and nagasaki to the ground etc

it's not the fact that it shouldnt be associated with that particular day it's the slogan itself ..not many americans equate "fun" with 9/11 ..it's the wording guys, stop looking at everything on the surface

I bet September 11th will be though, because that's what everyone refers to it as.

Sounds like the title of a movie tbh.

America is just becoming Hollywood.

ya bad hollywood, not the good hollywood

and yes sept 11th will forever be ingrained in americans minds as the day they were attacked ...just like pearl harbor and every other thing I cited

Actually I think what they were going for by making it this date is to get more people involved, like say you see that date and it rings a bell but your not quite sure which one, so it stays a significant date in your mind and instead of "o the WTCs..." you go "hell ya 360 fo sho!" It's probably their plan but with everything going on in the news it may just not work :/

Do you see people going crazy over someone celebrating something on the 7th of December? It was 5 years ago, it's time to start a new and get on with our lives rather than bringing up the past constantly. It is fine to remember what happened but to start moaning at people for deciding to something other than mourn on 9/11 is a bit low.

On 9/11, i went to the gym twice, came home, watched some tv and then went to bed...i'm sad for what happened on 9/11 and remember switching on the news when it happened and watching it through the day but i'm not going to put down anyone who decides to do anything else. The only reason a lot of people are moaning isn't for the fact that someone is trying to have fun on 9/11 but because it's Microsoft.

hah.....sometimes i wonder if microsoft is run by a big heartless machine.

:upstare: ya that must be it ..it's microsoft :upstare: ..I really dont give a **** who it is. I found it funny because they (again I dont care if it was depends underwear) equated 9/11 with fun ..look at the number: 9/11 ..that has only ONE meaning

and you live a world away in the UK ..the US is right next door to me and you couldnt flip by an american channel that didnt have some mention of 9/11 whether it was the countless documentaries on everything from the history channel, A&E, PBS to reports of ceremonies across america on cnn and foxnews

7th of December is Nikolaus day in Germany, also that my "Namens tag" ^^

Bah. Don't really care.

They can associate jumping fecal matter with 9/11 if they want. Not going to affect me.

I would consider yesterday a fun day for me and our channels were still filled with stuff about 9/11.

Honestly I agree on both sides of the debate... I think its something that needs to come to pass and we don't have to mourn over it anymore.

BUT... the media still covered it heavily yesturday, looking back on that day and stuff. The history, discovery, and most news networks showed specials on the world trade center attacks, sometimes all day specials. That goes to show that we still haven't forgotten about it, and until we stop mourning over it, it would be best not to start screaming "9/11 is the new FUN DAY!!" unless you want some pissed off people on your hands.

That's the only real argument i have heard in this thread as to why someone shouldn't call September 11th 2006 a fun day, because the media says it's a day of mourning. September 11th 2006 was a fun, happy day full of excitement, relaxation and general enjoyment. Yes, remember what happened on September 11th 2001 but don't let it stop you from getting on with you living your life and especially don't make it mean that you have to go out and stop everyone else living the rest of their lives.

You guys ... it was badly worded, that's the point. No one cares that they had some stupid video game festival on 9/11, the point was how they worded it. "The fun starts 9/11" ... that's really really stupid marketing. They could have put the date at the bottom or whatever, or even "Be there 9/11," but they didn't. It's not a huge deal, just kind of funny to see such a stupid screw-up from a big company.

So according to you guys... fun is forbidden on sept 11th? People say "The fun begins on bla bla" all the time... why should that date be banned from the phrase?

You guys are way too PC about shit. I dont think they worded it poorly, its just another date. Something bad happened on that date 5 years ago, not last year. Get over it... and who gives a shit?

Plus this is an ad directed at video gamers. Video gamers have fun at video game tours. So thus... on 9/11, when the tour begins, so does some fun.

Its not like they went up to the families of those who died and said "YAY 9/11 IS A FUN DAY."

I myself am offended that presidential elections in the US tend to be held on my birthday.

The wording's a bit bad, but so what? Seriously, if Nintendo had done it you'd probably all be praising them for trying to get our minds off of it or something.

Goddamn.

As many have said, it has been five years since "9/11". People need to stop throwing it in our face.

Yeah, remember it, but don't stop functioning because of the past.

I find it funny but I do agree that just because something bad happened 5 years ago on this day does not mean you can't have fun on it. Although something bad did happen yesterday, my Soccer game was cancled cuz of rain.

look at the number: 9/11 ..that has only ONE meaning
Here in america(probably Canada, idk) you are having an emergency, lets say your house is on fire...
What number do you call? 911.
It has 2 meaninings.

If your birthday is on 9/11, should you note celebrate it because it is a bad day? No. While you can't change your birthday you can always celebrate your birthday on a different day, but should you? Should you change it because of something that happened 5 years ago? I wouldn't.

Sept. 11 is just a date. I don't see why it should be any different from Sept. 10 or Sept. 12.

I see a problem because it's still ingrained in my mind as the day a nation was attacked.

I mean, the "Fun" starts on 9/11? 9/11 (that's nine-eleven, as opposed to nine-one-one) = September 11th = World Trade Centre attacks, in the minds of most americans... probably.

As long as the fun doesn't involve the celebrations of the attacks, nobody should get their panties in a bunch.
