Microsoft Windows Vista Build 5270 screen shots

omgz! windows! virus haxed within the first month!

looks good i like the default task bar design.

The main point about Vista being resource hogging will be do to the switch from 32bit to 64bit. Anything going from 32 to 64 requires double the length in memory addresses thus you can only store half as many. So what required 512megs in 32bit now requires 1024 in 64bit.
The same was for 8bit to 16bit to 32bit.

Thus for the OS and any 64bit application ram will be a significant increase. Other than that since the OS takes advantage of graphics cards and etc...and that you can fully turn off all advanced settings...it shouldn't be at all anymore than Windows XP.

I cannot see how this can be anymore resource hogging than Xp (after 32bit to 64bit conversion math). If it is really resouce hogging then tone it down and don't use all the cool looking themes. Transparency and things will be able to be done much smoother with the use of Hardware acceleration.

yup.
heard people wanting to run Vista will need a monster rig to run it smoothly :|
Hopefully the only thing it'll be sold for.

Well the rig needed to run it will look less monsterous when it gets released. 2007 right?

According to Microsoft, there'll be special Vista tailored computer released at the release day or soon there after, I have no idea if these will be made by Microsoft or if they'll sponsor companies like Dell.:)

Hmmm. Looks awfully familiar, rather like another more user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing OS...

Same thing with the 360's design...

Apple must be doing something right.

Well Microsoft has ALWAYS been about seeing what everyone else does that people like and then mimicking those things in their own software later down the road. Since windowed interfaces themselves.

Their were some specs released. But
1) You wont need a monster rig AT ALL.
2) With features toned down you should be able to run it on just about any computer.
3) What makes you think you would need a monster rig? To get all the 3d features you need a 3d graphics card, you need double the ram if it was just as resource hogging as XP, and you shouldn't need to much of a processor.

Basically in the end if you tone down some of the 3D features that rely on your GPU, and get some extra ram and a 64bit CPU you will be fine. Vista is a 64bit Operating System(Thus 64bit cpu makes sense), though their will be a 32bit sent out to more 3rd world countries.

Minus the 3D functions, and double the ram(Once again because 32bit to 64bit computing requires double), you should be able to run this on ANY COMPUTER that can run XP(Considering it has a 64bit processor).

Why would Vista require a monster rig? The fact is, it wont. The main thing people were worried about is RAM. But Vista isn't coming tommarow. The only issue on ram is because your going from 32bit to 64bit. 1024 ram for 64bit would give you 2048 for 32bit. Because memory addresses require double the space(64/32 = 2). In a year Vista should be up their. The next big thing was that people were worried about Video Card's. Vista introduces alot of 3d functions right to the desktop and use the GPU to speed things up. Like Transparency, or lining up 2d applications at an angle and allowing images n videos to keep on playing, and etc.. Then their's the CPU which basically just has to be 64bit.
You will be able to turn off all the 3D functions(Aeroglass) and turn it down to the 2D basic ones, like back to Windows 2k(Called "Aero").

Well Microsoft has ALWAYS been about seeing what everyone else does that people like and then mimicking those things in their own software later down the road. Since windowed interfaces themselves.
Nothing wrong with that, if anything it's a good thing. Windows is the OS that is most used by Developers of all sorts. Applications or games, whatever Windows has em. So why not take the best ideas that people like and apply it to their software to furthor improve on giving a better experince to the majority.

Plus if this was really like Apple's their would be a lawsuit, Apple was already willing to do that for a Xp skin.
