As you may have already known, Microsoft's source code for both Windows 2000 and Windows NT has been leaked recently. Microsoft is accusing their partnet "Mainsoft" for leaking it since they work with the source code, porting certain Microsoft products to Unix. When working with Source Code, programmers usually leave comments in the source explaining that part of the source. Microsoft's programmers however like to use profanity, and talk about how sucky the Windows code is. Read the entire article below for a good laugh! :burp:

LOL HACK OF DEATH... that would make an awesome screen name.

It's not too shocking... programmers get alot of frustrating trial work

private\inet\wininet\urlcache\filemgr.cxx:
// ACHTUNG!!! this is a special hack for IBM antivirus software

This isn't unusual. We were never meant to see their comments. I hate documenting my code and when I do, it tends to be colorful as well.

Some examples:

//I was forced by management at gunpoint to include this hack:

//Turds float. So if this function starts to float, remove it at once.

(In the realease build) //TODO: Add exception handling:

//REFACTOR: WTF was I thinking when I wrote this??

--Mr. Bildo

Haha... ACHTUNG! I knew a mop butcket named that once... after the 'wet floor' signs...

heh we do the same thing with art too, comments in object files, curious surface names, text all over concept art. It's just one of those things. Funny to read other people's comments too, you can see the state of mind they were in at the time, how stressed and p*ssed off they were the closer the deadline is :)

Hehe thats a nice url right there, u gotta love how they seem to give themselves a hard time. But its pretty much what I would have expected, exept the words they choose. hehe exellent!

Does someone mind telling me what a "hack" is?
basically its a quick fix to something, a bodge. Just something that gets the results but is often far from perfect or just temporary until something better comes along

what they mean by hack here is the relationship the departments have. many will send each other incompatible code, or crappy code, and often they have to somehow link those together... which is why they sound so pissed off.

Crap, at first I thought it was a joke, I guess not! :D

I like the MS dudes, they're funny :D

It’s nice to read that M$ do infact make decent code at the end of it.

You can complain all you want about how crap Window$ is but as the article mentions, you've gota consider all the compatibility issues each line of code has.

Until you've used any other OS, "Linux" to name one, you really can't complain. If you still don’t believe me, get Linux and try to use it. I use it daily and I think it’s a POS. That’s why I use the shell ;)

P.S. Where did DOS go?? I want DOS :(

DOS was always the easiest for me... I used to dir /p /s (or is it -p?) the hell out of school computers to see if anyone had 'installed' any games :)

WTF you preffer DOS over UNIX or LINUX????

What the hell do you use Linux for? by the sounds of it you might as well just use windows for whatever your doing.

Back on topic, I would expect this from OS programmers, just imagine writeing 400 lines of code just to fix a single bug for a feature that will never be appreciated only to find not only does it still not work but has broken something else at the same time.

I don't really preffer DOS over UNIX just I like simpler times ;)

I'm a systems admin. I run web/games server with Linux I also preffer Linux for programming. The reason I don't use windows is because it's company computers and not very many have windows installed (and the ones that do are XP... do NOT get me started on that tele tubbies GUI)

Anyway, yeah I wouldn't mind using window$ for alot of the work I do, namely writing report and crap but in the end i've no other choice

haha, thats so funny and so quaint. Makes microsoft seem more human somehow, but are we 100% that they were really comments made by the programmers?

Also, ironica that M$ happily release a product with problems and even the programmers admit it has problems :\

It's all about meeting the deadline...

:naughty: Microsoft :naughty:
