Some of you may have seen the article where Microsoft's WGA checks up with there HQ......well it seems they are not the only ones...

Apple.

Now of course neither of them send any personal data or spy on you I would just like to give a little heads up that Microsoft arn't the only ones and it is also possible to disable Microsofts via registry.

But I would think that they provide/tells us when updates are available; like Windows Updates right?

yes, the guy is complaining that it checks the wigets for updated twice within 7 hours.

Microsoft will soon be changing their wga to disable versions of windows that they think are pirated, apparently. wga has been known to report genuine verions as pirated.

Looks like i remembered slightly wrongly, its versions of windows that dont have an up to date version of wga. Whether that includes all 'pirated' copies or not i dont know.
Source.
Oh and i also saw a reply about this from someone at microsoft who didnt deny it, but i cant find it.

I've definently heard that Comrade.

so, can WGA ruin windows for you ? and you have to reformat ?

No. The most it can do is tell you that you have X days to update it until your windows expires. After those X days you would have to basically re-check your key(if you can't do it online just call up Microsofts...it's generally a quick and easy process.). I'm also sure they do updates right in windows updater. It does this because it has to be updated in order to fight new pirate techniques.

funny thing is, the daily checks wga used to do weren't checking if your copy was valid, it was simply checking with ms if there were updates files/details as the program was in testing and they had publicly said the tests would quickly be changed to only 2 weeks, than even less after that.

what happened ? sensationalist 'journalism' by all the many anti-ms retards on the marvelous interweb.

/stabs you in the eye. :)

i bought xp pro with a student discount a few years ago, it was like $150AU i think.

I bought an OEM version of Windows XP and Office XP for both $10 from my college. They only let you get 1 copy per student. I'm still enrolled there so I hope they sell Vista and don't count it aganst me that I bought XP through them. D:
