The long-struggling publisher of Mortal Kombat filed for bankruptcy this morning, calling it a difficult but necessary decision.

The voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 effects all of its U.S. subsidiaries, but none of its international ones.

"This was a difficult but necessary decision," said Midway Chairman, President and CEO Matt Booty. "We have been focused on realigning our operations and improving our execution, and this filing will relieve the immediate pressure from our creditors and provide us time for an orderly exploration of our strategic alternatives. This Chapter 11 filing is the next logical step in an ongoing process to address our capital structure."

"SAY WHATTTT?"

Boy I can't imagine why this happened. Mortal Kombat is such a strong franchise and all the games since 1992 just got progressively better and better. I mean, MK vs. DC was like fighting game perfection.

I don't think anyone played or cared about MK since MK3 or something, and that was out for the Saturn.

I don't give a shit what this thread was about previously, someone just mentioned Saturn.

Everybody stop and repurpose this as a Saturn thread.

;(

I am now replacing every word I can't remember with Saturn.

I just Got the MK Vs DC game, and having not enjoyed an MK game since MK2, I thought the new one was outstanding.

Well you have a shitty opinion.

Naw, the game's actually OK.

But not outstanding. Just OK.

Ten times better than the shit that was Soul Calibur 4, that was the worst ?40 I ever spent.

EVERYTHING is better than Soul Calibur 4.

Rise of the Robots was better than Soul Calibur 4.

I could write volumes about why it's the shittiest one in the franchise, but I only need four words:

THEY

LEFT

OUT

HWANG

Rise Of The Robots, christ, it's amazing the games you block from memory.

Soul Calibur 4 somehow drained all the fun out of the series.

I'm not really sure how.

I could literally spend all night playing 2 and 3 with friends. But 4 got boring fast.

Fixed that for you.

I never liked 2. None of my other friends seem to notice the difference between SC and SC2, but 2 has a wildly different feel to it in the movement. It's glaring to me.

And most of my friends like 4, too. I just can't fathom why.

The series goes: Soul Calibur > Soul Calibur 3 > Soul Blade > Soul Calibur 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>* Soul Calibur 4.

And Legends is omitted because...well, it's Legends.

Well I'm amazed they've lasted this long to be fair

Oh god ****ing shit damn, I'd all but blocked this out of my memory.

That game is not suitable for a ten year old. Also, everyone else.

Ha, I saw this in an old second hand store today on the Amiga CD-32, along with Zool.

Dude, buy it. Buy it and get a plaque for it that reads, "Worst fighter ever: Welcome to the JUMP KICK"

Actually if I ever find a copy this is what I might do.

Dude, these guys were one of the seminal videogame companies the world has ever know. Arcades would not have existed in the same way had these guys not been around to make/distribute some of the most classic and well-loved videogames EVAR!!!!! Very sad. Bets on who buys them??

If I had any way of re-living the awfulness of the game, it might have been worth a buy for the laugh, then again, who knows if it would have even worked from a second hand shop.

Really?! Woah I didn't know that. I didn't want it anyway, SC III killed the franchise for me. Having yoda and vader just buried it further.
