Hey all, just found this site... looks like there's a big crowd, think I'll try to join in :D

this is an upcomming half-life 2 tc mod. For those who don't like clicking links, I'll try to explain as quick as I can, so you feel the urge to click the link ;)

There are three classes:
Mind
Body
Power

Mind focuses on Magic, Body focuses on Ninjutsu and Samurai techniques, and Power focuses on modern/advanced weaponry (guns, armor, cloaking, and whatnot). The player can combine skills from the three classes however they wish to. Some players may specialize in one class, and some may become class hybrids. It's up to the user as to what kind of character they want.

There are 175 skill points, and each skill has a skill cost dependant solely on what class you mastered in. Example: Mind skill costs - Boil Earth - with mastery: 20 pts, without master - 40 pts. Ninja's shadow clone technique - with mastery: 30 pts, without mastery: 80 pts.

The main gameplay consists of multiple teams of 3. You set up your skills and teams outside of the map (in an RA3 sort of mini-justJoined map), and you enter. The main gameplay mode right now consists of 3 pendants. You battle over these pendants with the multiple other teams (depends on the server capacity, but the ideal teams per server is between 4-8, so 12-24 people total). Once a team has the three pendants, they go to the center point and win. That's the general idea, check the info page for more information.

My goal with this game is to create a very unique skill system, that works with big maps and a fun gameplay mode. Your input is very welcome on our forums, or on this thread, as to what you like, dislike, want to see changed, etc. Nothing is set in stone YET. =)

We are currently looking for 3d artists, experienced mappers, and assistant coders. We're also looking for people to discuss our ideas, so please, if you like the ideas on the info/extra page, join us =)

what type of magic can u use? That would be sweet being able to use summoning spells or using frozen orb from d2

There's a lot of different magic. Offensive spells revolve around Fire and Ice. Enhancing spells revolve around Lightning, Wind, and Earth. There are currently 2 summoning spells, Fire Demon and Ice Guardian. Both should work about the same when it comes to AI, while the Fire summon will deal more damage, Ice guardian will have a bit of damage and "slow" added on.

No plan for an ice orb spell, but I always loved that spell on d2 =P It's always possible, but we're trying to keep away from absolute copies of other games. Cool spell that could be discussed though
 
nice nice well it sounds like this might be a mod worth playing. For the fire spells there should be a fireball type spell and when it hits enemys or objects it explodes which would hurt ppl ina definded radius.
For the ice maybe a nice spell that slows down enemys or stops them all together. There should also be a frost nova ( ya i know that comes from d2 but no one has to know)
I'll probalby have more ideas later but keep up witht eh good work :cheers:

our spell layout already has the ideas you've posted, so check out the rest of the spells on the info page and give me your comments. (Fireball and Iceball are the two basic spells you were thinking of, btw) The rest of the spells are a bit more in depth, and I would like to combine a few different genres of players, so tell me how you're feeling about our current mind (magic) lineup. =D

"Replacement Technique: Passive skill which can be used once per minute. If attacked, the user is replaced with a block of wood, teleported slightly, and sent into "ghost mode". Ghost mode lasts only a few seconds, and no attacks can be made during this time."

k i just looked at the site this morning ( only got 5 hours of sleep :( ) and checked the mind class and quickly looked at the body class. Everything seems to be alright with the mind class except for having only 2 skills in the lightning and earch class. Oh and the wind class. There should be skills to increase your mana/ life for a time. Maybe being able to cast on team mates as well.

I think for the earth tree there should be a skill that rains down meteors ( maybe meteor shower? lol) where the metoers crash down in a maybe medium sized area and have exploding damage on contact. It would have to have a very high cool down rate though for such a spell. While talking about the earch skills how about a earthquake spell that temporarily removes a player from the game. I also just thought of another summoning spell, how about enchanted roots or gnarled roots? stationary roots that lash on their victoms.

I really like the body class, there are many cool things in there. I thought it would be sweet to have a skill that lets you look through your opponent's eyes fro a time being just to see what hes up to. It could be called inner sight. I just got a idea, a dart of greed that leechs life off of a opponent.

Well thats it for me at the moment but i'll keep you posted if i have any other thoughts. Please give me your input about my ideas here. thx and keep up with the good work. One last question, how big will teh maps be?

cool ideas, we were discussing some sort of skill like a limit break (final fantasy thing) for each class, and meteor storm happened to be one of them. So you might expect something like that in there. Also, inner sight is definitely something I was considering drunk one night but forgot all about it, so thanks for reminding me! That dart of greed idea is pretty neat, who would use it? Also, we hadn't thought of temp hp/mana enhancing spells much either, and I like that idea =) I would probably make it an energy enhancing spell, so it would temporarily boost mana, Ki, and fusion, all at once.

well thoughs ideas i just thought up right on the spot, if i really took time and thought i could probably think if a good idea. Hey how about a hurricane spell?

haha, yeah i was considering just naming the skills by the japanese words, but I would have to find a close person to do the voice overs...

and yes we're going to have good quality voice overs, got some hook-ups in the film department ^^
 
Question about multiplayer: Would the pendants enable special skills for ther person carrying them? If so, could a team mate pass a pendant over to one another like Bombing Run in UT2k3?

Also, How will the mod take advantage of the new Source engine, the the modified Havoc physics engine within the game? Maybe the players could set traps like the "swinging beam trap" in the E3 tech demo?

Would it be possible for the differen't class skills to complement each other? Perhaps in a later version, Elemental skills from a Mind player could be used on a teammate using Power, giving their weapon a temporary boost in attack, and a magicall attribute related to the element powering their weapon.

Just some thoughts :). Keep up the good work, this will probably be one of the first mods I download if it comes out soon after the release.

You can pass your pendant, but the current setup is like this. In a team of 3, each person can only hold 1 pendant. Team of 2, each person can hold 2 pendants. Team of 1, can hold 3 pendants. I don't foresee us giving people special powers when they're holding the pendants, but it's possible. Maybe something like hightened energy regain, or hp regeneration, or something small but helpful, and it could be dependant on which pendants you have (maybe the mind pendant increases your mana total and mana regen rate). Actually this is a good idea to give them special attributes, think I'm going to bring it to my team and see what they think =D

You know, I'm wondering about that too. How could would it be to set up actual traps in a big forest map. I would love that, but we have to wait and see how this system actually works. Is it done 100% through mapping? Or is there a way to actually move objects in such a way that they form a deadly trap? (with the physics gun) If it's possible, we'll probably try to include it, maybe with telekinesis.

Yep yep, mind has a few enhancing spells (attack speed, attack strength, casting speed) and body has a heal technique. But I think you're really asking if you can add say... fire or ice or whatever element into a body or power attack (like flaming bullets, or a flaming sword, or whatever), and that answer is no. But... it was in the original game design before I changed the skill system, so I really want to work it back in there... just dunno how yet.
