About 30 minutes ago, my wife and I made a down payment on the 2007 Mini Cooper in this picture. It will be in my driveway in 6 weeks, and that's about as much awesome as I can pack into a single post.

HECK YES.

New cars are awesome. I wish I could do that :( I'm stuck with my shitty shit shit. Congrats :D

I'm perfectly happy with my Rover 25.

Although I scratched up the hubcaps real good today when a Land Rover tried to force me off the road. :x

Congratulations DreamThrall, I have a friend who has a dream to own a brand new mini too, and for the people that like them they clearly present a lot of excitement, even though I can't see what that is!?

i hate mini coopers but i know you must be excited, getting something new is always fantastic :D

<3 my volvo

Too sedantary...

I drive this - once you try two wheels, you can never go back. :D

0-60 in 3.6 seconds and a very practical commuter and it probably cost less than an ancient Ford Escort.

Bikes are for puffs who have an S&M fetish

As for new minis, they're nice cars but lack the awesomeness of the old mini

Oh what model? I have a Crap250 model Shitty shit shit. Runs like... well, shit.

Ahh, well, mines more of the shitty model. It's a HorseCrap119 model. Damn I wish I would have gotten yours. Yours has mine beaten hands down :(

Unless it's the turbocharged Cooper S, then you, sir, FAIL. Otherwise, good job, it'll be a fun car to drive. It ought to handle like a go kart. I, personally, would have gone for a VW GTI

Unfortunately, it isn't the S model. My wife and I are planning on having a baby in the near future, and I felt it would be unwise/irresponsible to tempt fate by getting a go kart with a turbocharger for our only means of transportation. In other words, I wouldn't want to be tempted to drive like an ass with a baby in the back seat. We test drove the regular 2007 and it still has quite a bit of zip, especially compared to the 2006 model we tested last year.

Funny that you should mention the GTI - I wanted one for a very long time, and we're actually trading in a 2002 Golf. VW lost my business when they made their Mk V models. I love my Golf (and other Mk IV hatchbacks) because they look so distinctive. Now, they just blend in with all the other Civics, Mazda MP3s or whatever they're called, and just about every other sporty hatchback on the market.

Repiv... you DID see the part where I mentioned my wife, right? Not gonna happen ;)

Yeah, its ok to be jealous. Especially considering I got it for free, with < 25k miles, and in perfect working order. Im one of those people who couldnt give a shit what car i drive, so long as its reliable, doesnt suck massive amounts of gas, and has 4 doors.

The only car I would actually give this up for is a cadillac xlr, and it will be awhile before I can afford that.

Cool.

My friend got a car today. First thing I asked was "is it a piece of crap?", to which he swiftly replied in the affirmative, as though I should have already assumed such.

I don't know people with money :)

I love Mini Coopers; they're like the mandolin of cars. They're just so cute and cuddly, :imu:.

Hey!

It's all I can afford at the moment.

Get a bike instead :) - they're so much cheaper versus the quality. Especially at this time of year.

My 600cc sports-tourer in excellent condition (51,000 miles but you wouldn't know it, one previous lady owner) only cost ?1195. Budget another grand on top for clothing and you're laughing. I got a TPFT quote for ?549 also.

Less than ?1200 but it performs better than all but the most expensive of sports cars out there that only the richest executives can afford. 18 litre tank that will take you about 200 miles. What's not to like?

Don't have a biker's licence though.

Also, I ferry people around often.

Anyway, a couple of years and I'll be able to broaden my horizons...

Getting a license is fairly painless (if you're over 21, you can get a full unrestricted license through a single five day course for about ?500), but ferrying people around could be a problem.

I'd love to do an epic tour of Europe and Asia some day...
Well, I'd love to do it tomorrow - but practicality doesn't allow. ;)

Yeah, I've got loads of things I'd love to do tomorrow, but work beckons! :E

It's a bastard, ain't it?
I think I'll do this for a couple of years to establish myself in the field and save some money, then go off on a load of wild adventures for a year.
Part of me now feels that I'm too young to really accept the massive responsibilities that come with this career just yet. There are so many things left to experience!

That's true. Although you could just work your ass off and retire at 35.

14 long years, man...but that's a really enticing thought. I know a guy that retired at 35 on a military pension. Lucky guy.

Depends how good the pension is...

I'd probably get bored/exasperated to finish work at a point which would be nearing the pinnacle of my career. Although with enough money, it would be sweet to be able to do that.

I would... but old beetles are death traps from what I hear, and I don't know anything about car mechanics so I wouldn't be able to keep it running, and the new beetles don't really do it for me.

I hav heard stories of beetles resisting more punishment than tanks and be very easy to repair
they where designed by hitler so what can go wrong?

You "accidentally" run over a jew? D:

Well, yeah. In any case though, you could just pick and choose your work based on what you love doing rather than what it pays. If I could earn this kind of money as a motorcycle courier, I would so be there. Sadly the money and prospects are miles off.

It's that unfortunate tradeoff in life. You can earn a fortune doing stressful and all-consuming work or scrape by doing something exciting.
I worked so hard to get into what I do now, and found it really exciting for the first month or so, but when the honeymoon period is over, it's all about blood, sweat and tears and constantly keeping up enormous pace and energy in your work. When things are going badly and you just want to say "**** it" are the times you have to work harder than ever.
But I'm on track to earn 40k this year which for my age is an incredible privilege, so what else can I do but stick with it?

I can't remember what you do, but I know it's something pretty corporate...did you have a similar experience?

vw lost my business when they stopped making mkII's. The mkIII is just the bastard child of the mkII and the mkIV is very meh. I do however like the mkV, but I just feel like for the money you can get better now.

I am partial though...
