Minecraft Beta 1.4

Notch has begun releasing some information on the 1.4 Beta. Most of you already know there will be "pets", achievements, and stats (kill X many creepers ect).

and here is a video of the "pets" which turn out to be wolves! They follow you, will sit for food, shake themselves dry after a swim, and will attack anything you attack! I was skeptical at frist but the attack feature might just win me over.

I am curious about just how they will be implemented. Will they need to be fed? If we don't will they die or go wild again? Will the wild ones attack if you attack them? Will you be able to play fetch?

I imagine you will want to build a pen for them so they don't follow you into a cave and get stuck.

There should be a way to interact with them so they will switch between following you and staying put. If not I'll just have to throw a kennel into my house plans.

I wouldn't mind that so much if the game were a LOT freaking harder. Really difficult monsters and stuff, and you could have a bunch of dogs be guard dogs/patrol dogs against night or daytime critters that might attack your homes and destroy parts of it.

Perhaps defenidng against goblin thieves that come at night and destroy blocks and stuff of your home if they can't find any other means to get to your chests to steal some items.

Having guard dogs that you can set up to roam freely or in specific areas tied to a post would be awesome to defend against things like that.

I think the ease of taming will be offset by how rare they are, assuming that video wasn't representative of their spawn rate.

Can't wait until the first time it tries to attack a creeper. :|

I'm interested in the achievements part mostly.

Raken and I have had a blast killing monsters in my monster killing machine on Pi's server, I've gotten nearly 2 stacks of gunpowder from it...

We've also had to rebuild the thing about three times before we found the right design.

The achievements don't excite me that much but I do think it would be cool to see how many blocks I've destroyed or how man enemies I've killed and stuff like that.
