Mini search engines?

What the hell is up with these websites? I never noticed them like five years or so ago, but nowadays, I have to wade through dozens of pages for any sort of result I type in to find what I need. Its becoming to the point that I won't even surf the web anymore because these bullshit 'mini search engines'.

So... you go into a search engine like yahoo, or google... and type something in, and get tons of different results for various websites that take you to a page, with more results of various websites, rather than an actual webpage.

Does anybody know what these things are called? They're so damn annoying!

Its driving me nuts when I can't find what I need sometimes, and need to wade through endless pages of these things. Anybody else know my pains?

yeah I'll google something and it will lead me to another search engine that is useless. These are a waste of a domain and they're more or less just there for the hope of displaying spam and advertisements.

Is it just me, or have they kind of crept up only in the past year or two ago? Never noticed it being bad before them. Anyone know the definition of these type of websites? Search engines within search engines? heh

I think they spam google with all the keywords that people type into the search box, and manage to get near the top of the results.

I think some sites have scripts that can generate what you've typed in too, so they can make pages on the fly, but the pages just contain search results from google.

It's pretty annoying.
