Could someone make a map for HL2 that is just a big warehouse filled with mirrors hanging from the cieling, on walls, on the roof, on the floor, standing up in the middle, so everywhere you looked there is a mirror.
That would make a unique multiplayer battle.

Yep, although you wouldn't see one mirror's reflection in another mirror (i think).

You do realize that Gordon will not be seen in any mirror in the game ? Not sure how it will be in Multiplayer.

No mr Bond - I expect you to DIE

mwuhahahahaha etc.

if you did that and the engine rendered the reflections to act like real life (as in more than just one reflection per object per mirror like SLH pointed out) wouldn't that just annihilate your processor?

I really really doubt that you can reflect reflections without a raytracing engine.

Don't be too sure.

Remember the 2003 tech demo of the video camera and the G-Man? I'm pretty sure when the camera was pointed at the screen, the screen showed a screen with-in a screen with-in a screen etc.

So I don't see why mirrors reflecting mirrors wouldn't work. Then again, lots and lots of reflections are gonna be cpu/gpu intensive, frame rates would suffer (probably).

You won't see Gordon in a mirror in HL2 because there will be no mirrors, simply because they don't want you to see yourself.

Multiplayer is a different story altogether.

I made a Deus Ex map once which consisted of only mirrors. It was confusing, but fun. And it worked fine with reflections of the reflections too. I remember I got fairly low fps though.

im gonna try and make a map like that and see wat happends

they didn't render it to an infinity. Only so it would seem that way to the human eye.

It would keep rendering the same scene all the time.

I didn't suggest it would render to infinity, I was just saying I thought the map idea was possible.

HAHAHA i asked this question to gabe a while ago I never posted the answer because it didnt really seem worth it.

but since it came up...

basically it confirmed that it is rendered just not to inifinty. and you could have mirrors in the game just by creating those camera entityies and projecting them onto a screen behind the entity. lol

There will be mirrors, Gordon will just be cut out. Like a vampire.

I think not somehow. The whole reason you don't see gorden in mirrors is that it spoils the immersion. Imagine the effect if they have mirrors but you don't show up...

Like light reflections when compiling RMTs, it will be limited to around eight (imo).

However, I am sure it would be possible to mod it in so it reflected more time than that.

I think that just takes the "Being Gordon Freeman" thing a bit to far, not talking and no cutscenes are good but, as they said, you ARE Gordon Freeman so if you look in a mirror you should see youself, ie. Freeman. Its not like Gordon Freeman is you, as the apperance of him has already been decided, your simply possesing him, if you get what i mean.

Fun thing in Doom 3 is the mirrors. You can look at yourself in them, and look at you holding the torch and you can see the light cone from it. However, the mirrors don't reflect light from your torch. Tut tut id.
