Missing Textures//Corruption

Im not entirely sure if this is a bad install or just a config issue but;

Whenever I load up HL2 I notice alot of missing textures. Models with missing textures usually show as wireframe, there is occasional corruption as well (for example the poles in the train at the very beginning being pink/black). Changing the resolution and/or detail settings doesnt help at all, and i'm positive my ATI card isnt overheating, and I meet the system requirements for the game.

Is there a way to somehow "validate" game files without having to redownload them?
