Mission Retry - Crap?

So in GTA IV we're given the option to retry missions after failing them by accepting a text message on the ingame phone.

This is a decent feature, no reloading, no driving miles back to the start point and no fuss. All you have to be prepared for is either a costly hospital bill if you've been wasted or a costly bail package and weapons if you've been busted.

However, unless it's a chase mission which my target has escaped on, I don't use this feature. In all honesty, it's fecking rubbish. The restart involves putting you back in the action by stripping you of any body armour you had and reducing your health if you've taken any damage. So you wind up reloading your game anyway so as not lose your protection, life and ammunition.

Does anyone actually use the restarts outside of chase missions? (And possibly the assassinations). I don't. It's seemingly pointless unless you're very, very impatient.

I never loaded my game back up, and I always used the restart when I failed. The game is a lot more fun if you play it how it was intended, it really doesn't take that long to call Little Jacob and grab some more body armor/ammo if you need to (you can still retry it from the text message screen, even if some time has passed). Hell, they even let you keep your weapons when you die ... there's no excuse for that save/load crap anymore.

Its usefulness diminishes in certain scenarios, but overall it's a pretty good feature.

If you get busted, it's kind of useless, since you probably need to gear back up again for the mission and that's quite costly, but really...how often do you get busted rather than die? If you do die...$500 for the med bill is really nothing, even relatively early on. However, chances are you will still need to go buy body armor, which isn't really an issue; call a cab to the nearest gun shop, buy armor, then restart the mission.

All in all, it's in your best interest to just not fail - most of the missions aren't really THAT hard.

If your on a mission where you have time to visit a gunshop for armour and supplies mid mission then yes it gets used...

The text stays in your phone, so you can wander off and stock up on armor and stuff again, then just open your messages and choose retry. You don't have to respond then and there.

Edit - That, or just call Lil' Jacob on your way to the mission.

I retry missions a lot...but only if I get busted (which is almost never). Very handy.

So far I haven't been busted at all. I've beaten the game and done most of the side stuff (at 80% right now) and haven't even gotten that close to being busted. My biggest complaint about this GTA is that it's quite a bit easier than the old ones.

I got busted once because I did not try to get away once my hands went up. That was it. A quick restart and away I went, never to get busted again. Killed, yes, many times. But I am never losing those guns again!

I only got busted once. and that was at the beginning of the game and I didn't know better.
Dying > Getting arrested.
Always, since I always have max ammo on everything.

I've used mission restart a lot.

And I've only been busted once. When that happened, I called up Jacob and spent a shit-load on new weapons.
