Interesting, and then some rumors I got from Willeh.

Work title is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 3: Apocalyptic. There will be many changes in the game's concept: much more locations (more than half of them will be optional) and player will be able to change the plot visiting them, player will be able to finish the game without exploring even half of the game. The game won't use separate maps, instead the areas will load dynamically.

Difficulty level will affect some plot nuances.

Also, what is known:
- there won't be definitive plot-centered missions
- Player will decide what to do and how to act depending on the situation. Number of side-quests will increase.
- new enemies, anomalies,.... and "bosses".
- new factions and also foreigners.

- economics will be greatly revised: good guns or equipment will be very costly, the same goes for artifacts.
- working vehicles
 
I loved both stalkers, but i never finished either.

I think they gotta work on the attention grabbing portion of the game
 
I hope any dynamic map loading isn't a retarding factor in gameplay.
 
Sounds way better than the first 2.

I wish they'd put the survival aspect back in. The game sounded so freaking awesome back in the alpha stages when you had to hide at night and barricade the door etc.

I like the idea of a game set in a post-apocalyptic world where you start off lost and alone and you find a little house. And you've got to build it up and go out and scavenge for food and maybe weapons. And you can find survivors and bring them back to your place and enlarge your community. Or you could kill them and steal their stuff. It would be like all those super-fashionable morality-driven games that come out at the moment without the plot. Although there would be survivor sub-plots.

Yeahhhh.

That a joke? I never had any trouble making money in STALKER. By the end of the game I had double the amount required to get the greed ending.

STALKER 3 sounds interesting though. I still haven't finished OL though, nor even bought Clear Sky yet.

Downloading the 2004 build now. I hope the college doesn't catch me wasting all their bandwidth and block me.

I just hope GSC just don't keep trying to cash in on STALKER over and over. If they can get 3 perfect (ie, what they intended STALKER to be in the first place) then leave the games to the mod community and do something new.
 
sounds sort of like Fallout

Certainly where the inspiration comes from. The best part of Fallout 3 was the robbing and the generally free-roaming sections where you'd stumble on something cool or the stealth sections.

I'm about halfway through downloading the build. It is a serious pain in the ass, since you can only dl 90mb of it at a time.
 
Just downloaded the build (in half an hour, I love my university) but I don't know how to get it to work!

I installed the build into a new folder. Was I supposed to unzip it into the STALKER folder? If so will this then interfere with / be affected by the mods I have istalled (I still have OL installed).
 
Someone let me know how that is. It's between this or OL, I don't know which to pick.

I believe I figured it out. The basic storyline was the same (experiments etc.), but the final chapter was substantially different. You entered Pripyat via the Dead City, you didn't face off against the Monolithin the NPP, but navigated it to get to the other side and to the Generators north of the power plant, where the C-Conciousness resided. Their final lair was there, together with six generators they used to alter the noosphere.

The final battle would take place in the massive Monolith War Lab.

The control room in the NPP was originally intended as the control room for the Brain Scorcher.

I remember this was a case with Boiling Point: Road to Hell.
Whenever you got caught in a level load your car would come out of it at the speed of sound; hitting a tree and flinging your car into space
 
Glad to see you're enjoying the older build, Grizz. Seems like you found some awesome stuff, I'll have to look into it myself when I get some time / patience.
 
When I graduate, I'll finally actually play STALKER. Just seems to much of a time investment at the moment.

It's much more difficult in Clear Sky. There is always some upgrade I've got my eye on that I'm saving up for. Plus, it's costly to maintain my gear. I haven't finished it though, I'm only in Yantar. I spent most of my time trying to get the faction war to work right.
 
riomhaire, I'm getting the same errors. If I get it to work, I'll let you know.

The file mentioned at the first stop (LocatorAPI.cpp) isn't in this directory nor my existing Stalker SOC or CS directories. Was it left out (indeed, the entire xrCore directory) from this file? Let me check the user.ltx file, as that may be where the reference to this file is.

2nd edit- no dice. Mikael, did you get this to run?

3rd edit - delete the savedgames folder, and run it by opening the file 'run_alife_s.bat'. (Picked this up from GSC forums, who picked it up from some Russian forum). I didn't get far, because there doesn't seem to be a screen for configuring controls, so I'll have to fart around with that configuration file later.
 
I also found out about the run_alife_s.bat thing, but I just get a grey screen and a new error when I alt-tab out

I turned off godmode (which is on by default) and I bled out after taking a hit ;/ Used 3 medpacks everytime I was almost dying, but the bleeding only went from red to orange. Couldn't find any bandages.

Also, while soldiers can be taken out with a shot to the head, the boars/dogs/whatever that is, are tough and take like 20 shots to the head, making killing them almost impossible.

Got it working a little. How do you holster your gun? It was in Russian though, which didn't help. Does the bat file you run affect this or is it always Russian? I ran it off alife_all instead of alife_s.
 
Downloading now. STALKER was just announced when I first got into PC Gaming, so it has a special place to me. To relive the experiences that I first read about in my first gaming magazine... would be amazing...

EDIT: This is the sort of thing that more developers should do, though I doubt they will. Can you imagine if they did that for SPORE?

wow, this build is horribly unpolished. It's what they advertised though. Maybe some modders will use these resources in one of their builds.
 
There's a reason why it's an internal pre-alpha build, you tards.
 
Are blowouts implemented in this build?
 
I hope they implement more survival features. Making it feel all the more authentic can create a hell of a good game. Oblivion Lost nailed some good concepts, such as the need for sleep and random blowouts (which didn't happen enough).

More weapons, thorough weapon modding, outfit modding (ie: choosing separate articles of armor instead of a whole armor set), and a better trading system.

Better faction system too.
 
I'm getting those errors too, tried that alife stuff didn't work either.
 
A better trading system is definitely needed. Stalkers never have anything to trade and always have the exact same amount of money. Stalkers should all some bit of gear they can trade and random amounts of money. What they are willing to sell you and the price they will take should be based on how much they like you and similarly what they will buy off you should be based on if they like you. When you trade with people they should like you more.

I did notice when playing OL that sometimes when you sell a Stalker a gun they will then use it as their primary weapon and will sell you their own one. Is this in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vanilla or is it just a feature of Oblivion Lost?
