HL2 loads fine, and I can play perfectly with no lag for a while and eventually the screen goes black. When I try to play DOD:source, the loading screen appears for a while and then goes black, I can still hear the mouse click as i go over the option on the left hand side but all I can see is blackness. I know its an issue with the video cards but does anyone have any fix? ty

Recently got a dell inspiron e1505, with the same video card as zeritule, and my screen is black when i start CS:S, and then when i can play, the fps is very very low. (10 fps). I have a good enough computer otherwise, 2 gigs of ram, lots of diskspace, and a decent cpu.
help please?

If you are using Onboard video from that chipset then it is not entirely directX 9 compliant.
Try
-reinstalling the newest DX9.0
-installing the newest Intel video drivers
-setting the Source games to DX8.1 instead

Do you have color correction on? Maybe turn it off.

Or if it's a Desktop, buy a add-in GFX card that has full DX9 functionality.
I'm not exactly sure why it would just go black and still let you run the game though.

Thanks for the reply
I dont mean to bother too much, but I dont know these things.

How do i check if color correction is on?
How do i switch between directx versions? and switch back?
I reinstalled the newest directx and the newest drivers dfor my video card, no luck. Thank you anyway!

After you have booted the game up and have reached the main menu, go to Options->Video->Advanced...->Disable 'Color Correction'.

If you do not already have console enabled, you'll need to enable it by going to: Options->Keyboard->Advanced->Tick 'Enable Developer Console(~). After doing this, press the "~" key to bring up the console. (Located above the Tab key). When you have console open, type in "dxlevel 81" to enable DirectX8.1. To go to DirectX7.0, for example, simply enter in "dxlevel 70".

Also, considering your weak system, try lowering or turning off some extra options. Such as AA, AF, HDR, screen resolution, etc.

I have the same chipset on my laptop, CSS just wont be friendly period despite lots of tweakage, HL2 will work decently enough with 30-40 fps at times but it's better to just get a better gaming pc for it.

hey guys i got a Inspiron E1705 laptop. The problem is im having trouble running Cs Source. The screen goes black after loading and theirs a sound when you hit the key icons. Please help me solve my problem. same vid card as Zeritule!

do you have the driver for your card installed?

every time i changed settings with that chipset css would always crash for me, but i dont have it so its no problem.

How does one go about checking to see if the driver is installed? Sorry if im asking stupid questions but im just frustrated that i have this game and its not running. Thanks.

Ok so I visited the websites and downloaded the latest drivers for the card. Then opened them via my desktop and then ran CS source only to get that all too familiar message "Unknown Video Card". So I clicked play anyway and once again it did not work. So now what? New video Card? I have a laptop is that even possible to change the card? Thanks anyway your help was great!

If its lagging quite alot try forcing the game to run in DirectX 7.0 by putting
-dxlevel 70 in the launch options window (press Proterties on the game in Steam then Set lanuch options)

I think its a driver problem. The problem is I'm having difficulty trying to find the most updated version so I can run Counter Strike Source. After the message appears" Unknown Video card" the game loads then a black screen appears. I also have Cs v 1.6 which runs perfectly on my PC. Should the drivers be updated? Any Help would be great!!!
