Mobo and 6800GT

My motherboard is at least 1/2 years old but apparently its a good one. I would like to know if a 6800GT would run on it or is my mobo too old?

Other specs:
AMD 2000+
512 ram
350W PS (gonna upgrade if I need to)
mobo: dunno

If theirs a problem could someone please tell my what I need.

ummm u kinda gotta figure out what mobo you have for us to be able to help...more than likely if it has an AGP slot its gonna work....considering the 6800 isnt pci-xpress

Go to run then type in 'dxdiag'.

It should tell you the mobo name beside 'System Model'

I just figured out my Mobos model. Beside system model it says "K7S5A". Im guessing this is the mobo model.

Also my current video card is the GeForce FX5200 128mg

So can the 6800GT or the 9800Pro run on this???

If you have and AGP X4 or X8 slot then it will

that board only supports x4 agp....i suggest you upgrade that ASAP to x8 or maybe even pcii-xpress......then go for the 6800 gt or 9800 pro....the reason i say this is you will be taking a pretty decent performance hit running at only 4x

well how about I get the 9800pro and upgrade my processor and motherboard after?

What I really wanna know is if Half Life 2 will run decently(smooth) on 1024-768, High Settings, no AA or AF with these specs

no.... 4x should be fine for awhile...in some cases the jump from 4x to 8x only increases fps by like 3..your fine with it for now

Not true - you'll notice very little difference (if any at all - 1 to 2 fps, maybe)

There's no point you getting a new mobo just to run a 6800 gt or 9800 pro. Get your gfx card and start saving for your next upgrade (the curse of the pc gamer)
